You'll have to find some spare time when you get back from holiday, my next job is assembling that big powered glider that's in the box on top of the drawers in the workshop. We could take it down to the beach, but I'm quite fancying a trip back to the Orme, I've still got the WildThing that you loved as well.

I said I'd show you pictures of what I'm trying to sort through. All these drawers need repacking so I can find things.
This is just 1 room out of 3 ..... not to mention my garden shed.

As an ex full size glider pilot I get the same sort of feeling watching Red Kites? when I am trying to thermal except they are so much better at it than me!

Those large drawers are blocks of 4 ( 2 stacked against the wall) they cost ten quid each and I bought 12 of them. The small drawers were only £5 each and I've got 9 ..... The whole assembly cost only £165.00
The problem is that all the equipment I had scattered in various places has just been dumped into them and still needs sorting out and cataloging....... it's going to be a long job!

Paul, it's your lucky day. .... I've decided to send you you a 2.4GHz set up. It's a Sektrum DX6i in good as new condition, it's even got its original box!. It is the updated model that does both DSM2 and DSMX. You can google the difference if you don't already know.
I'll include a full range receiver and servo's. I'm trying to find a small 3S (11.1V) lipo and a 5V switching voltage regulator for the Rx, but this won't be hiding in too difficult a place. .... I don't like the old heavy 4.8V Nimh or Nicad packs.
The Tx uses 4x AA alkaline batteries (They last for ages) but you'll need a charger for the Rx lipo so I'll enclose one of those with an appropriate power supply.
In other words you're getting a complete modern kit, just please put it to good use.
Somebody once helped me out when I was getting back into the hobby, I'd like to honour his memory by doing the same now.

Wow!!!! Really not sure what to say Phil..... thanks.... can you let me know how it all works..... last gear I used was 35mhz.... plug it all together and it worked, you really need to let me repay you in some way, please let me paint something for you, you must have a favourite aircraft.

You don't have to say anything Paul. You can see the pictures of my main workshop and you can see all the transmitters hanging on the wall, what the hell do I need all those for? I'll still have 7 channel and 9 channel 2.4GHz sets, plus another one dedicated to a helicopter that I bought. If you read the Control Line Stunt Model thread you'll see people offering to give away engines!!! .... This is what we're like on this forum, (Or at least we used to be) .... we're all friends and we do each other favours.
You want to convert a very light FF model to R/C, you're not going to manage that with old cumbersome 35MHz gear, you need 2.4GHz .... I've got it, I'm not using it, seems like the logical thing to do.
I've found what should be a good Rx lipo and I'm discharging it now to check its capacity.
I've found a 5A switching Voltage regulator, it's a new one so it should be fine.
I've found 2 new mini servo's and I remember buying 3 others for a heli but they were the wrong size by a few millimeters, I'll come across those soon. They were good metal geared ones so I'll have put them somewhere safe.
I'll get this lot off on Monday (barring disasters), probably by Royal Mail Parcel Post, ... I assume there'll be someone around to take delivery?

Yep, the guys have helped each other a few or more times I have found that applies often in the RC model flying Community, we often help each other.

Mmmm, not very happy with this Rx ipo that I tested, it's supposed to be 1000mAh and it's only reading 649mAh on my charger, I'll have to dig out another one and check that out.
I think it's going to be one of those days where I'm running about like a blue arsed fly! This car goes back tomorrow when I collect the new one at 12.30pm. it's still full of rubbish that I'm taking to the tip, and it's still got a roof rack fitted that could be a problem to remove. I've lost the key to it and will have to either pick the locks or drill them out. ..... I also wanted to go and visit the lads at this new flying club that I've joined. ....... Whatever happened to nice lazy Sundays?

What was the state of the LiPo before the charge?
A 649 charge on a 1000 mAh sounds very like it started at a typical 35% 'storage' level.
As I always keep my LiPo at the storage charge set by the charger (40%?) so I only get worried about a LiPo when it starts to take significantly less than 60% of its intended capacity or it no longer balances properly.

You could have a point there Q. I thought the lipo was fully charged but I just took it out of the drawer and put it on discharge, it may not have been balanced. I've put it on a balance charge and I'll discharge it again.
I've definitely got to get this gear boxed up and posted in the morning, don't ask me why, it's just a target I've set myself after failing to get it posted last Saturday, ..... I'm sure Paul wants to have a play with it asap as well.
I keep remembering little things that he'll need ..... eg. an On/Off switch in line with the Rx battery, we don't use them on models with motors unless we want one just in line with the regulator output, but Paul will want one on a glider.

Paul, are you sticking with towline gliders for now or are you likely to try out power assist in the near future?
The reason I ask is that it might make a difference as to which charger I pack. I've got a simple charger that will just charge 2S or 3S lipo's, at 1 Amp. You have no settings to alter, you just plug in the balance lead and off you go.
I've also got a smart charger that does all types of batteries at different rates, but you do have to know what you're doing.
