Haaha! I'm sure they deliberately make these things over-complex!
I've updated my X9D+ to 2.2.4 from 2.1.1, but can I get it to write to the SD card? Can I heck! :evil:
Plan B is to put the card into one of those adapter thingies, and plug it directly into the pc.

Well, I found the appropriate thingy, and put the micro SD into it, and plugged it into the computer.
The computer decided it was drive N
so
I can read the contents
BUT the b$%^& thing is write protected! Tried to format it - same thing, write protected.
So how do I tell the card I want to write an updated programme to it?
Where's Mike Wood when he's needed?

The micro SD card cannot be write protected, however if you're using a card reader with an adapter then the adapter has a write protect switch next to the S of the Sandisk. The slider has to be forward towards the contacts.
I don't recommend using a Card reader, it tends to create multiple Logical drives and just confuses the issue. My favorite is this widget that plugs straight into the USB

The switch on the reader was in the unlock position.
I've not seen that direct usb plug before, I'll have to look for one for next time!
As these bits are off-topic to the Horus, feel free to remove them in a day or so, to tidy things up, when everyone has had a laugh on me!

I have 10 or so of these SD cards and have never had a problem. Looking on the net I see some people do have problems. I see the card appear as drive N, maybe your Registry isn't prepared to write to drive N. As I've said elsewhere, using a card reader seems to confuse the issue!

Just to round off my side-track on the X9d+
Widget/gadget/thingy arrived today, tried it, SD card wiped and re-loaded with the new data.
Success.

What I found with the SD card adapters ( also with some SD cards ) was that when you pushed the card adapter in the reader the lock would move forward write protecting the card, and when pulling the card back out the lock moved back towards the contacts making it write enabled. so if you looked at the adapter you would never know anything was wrong as the write protect tab was in the correct position.

Took me a while before I found out what the problem was.

Yes I know how old the thread is Eric, and was aimed at the SD card adapter not the micro SD itself as I know they don't have a lock tab.

As you stated above you tried using it in your PC with a SD card adapter and was locked which may have been your problem with it being write protected ;)

Ah, ok.
If I recall, via the adaptor card, it would neither read nor write. The pc wasn't recognizing the gadget.
When I used the usb device, it worked both ways, straight away.

I have that with my sandisk 16gd micro cards, for some reason the inbuilt sd card reader will not read or write either but will read smaller sized cards if i use my external card reader it works fine, only thing i can think with my internal reader is it can only read small sized cards, possible driver update or a firmware update on the internal card reader is needed. most of the time i just use the external one, saves me struggling on the floor to find the card slot, much easier just to use the one on the table.
