After the total loss of an aircraft that had great sentimental value due to a reversed servo I decided to check my servos, of which I have many.
The radio feeds a pulse to the servo many times per second, the width of this pulse says to the servo where it should be. The pulse width varies from a minimum of 1,000micro seconds (that's 0.001seconds) to 2,000micro seconds (that's 0.002seconds) this pulse is repeated about 50 times per second (that's an average since not all manufacturers use the same repeat number and the servo doesn't mind).
Here's my point, to me it seems reasonable that the shortest pulse would be fully anticlockwise and the longest fully clockwise, and it is, for about 95% of my servos, notably Acoms and Rich are the exact opposite! So be careful. As a point of interest the shortest pulse is stick right back for an un-reversed channel.

How very unlucky!
I would have to say that all of the 121 servos I have bought (and yes I have the evidence!) all have functioned in the same way.

What happens if you mix analogue & digital servos ? Say for example I use a pair of digital servos for ailerons & a single analogue for elevator & the same for the rudder. Would there be a problem?

My own view is the rx does not know what sort of servo is on the other end of the wire so there no signal difference.
The only difference will be in the way the two types of servo perform and react to the rx signal and the amps they use doing it.;)

Agreed. All the receiver does is split the channels, and send positioning data down the wires. It doesn't care what's on the other end.

I think you will find the signal from the rx is digital.
An analogue servo just converts the digital signal into a voltage which is then compared to the voltage that the servo 'pot' creates from the position of the servo and turns the motor as required.
A digital servo compares the frequency of the rx signal directly to a frequency created by the servo position circuitry. No longer voltage sensitive and very accurate or something like that. ;)

A digital signal, as far as we're concerned, is merely an on/off pulse tone in a given time-space.
So - a 1.5 millisecond pulse followed by a 1.5 millisecond silence - drives the servo to centre.
A one millisecond pulse followed by a two millisecond silence drives it to one end.
A two millisecond pulse followed by a one millisecond silence drives it to the other end.

That is a very crude explanation, so if there is some electronics genius out there reading this, don't leap down my neck saying it's all wrong blah de blah! [badass]

Very useful information gent's. I asked because the rudder servo in the Tomcat is digital & the one I intend to use in the float for the water rudder is anologue.
