The Britflight Breeze, is it more than a toy?



Britflight is a small but innovative company based in Farnborough, they have four planes in their arsenal at the moment.
Breeze,
D-zee,
Hustle
Htwo-0.
The Breeze is the cheapest of the four at £39.99 plus postage.
Or £87.99 with the electric pack, this consists of every thing you will need to complete the model.

All are made from heavy duty foam covered in strong plastic and are capable of with standing the odd hard landing

Now I am the first to admit that I am not the worlds greatest flier, but I do love a good build and I am afraid to say that the breeze is not a good build.
It's a great build!

OK its not a balsa bashing masterpiece as it is made from foam and arrives 80% ready built, but it is fast, simple and easy for all those with 2 left thumbs.

The instruction DVD is clear and concise, though I would have preferred a paper set of instructions but that is just me.

The fuselage and main wing are well made from foam and covered with plastic, all the control surfaces are pre-hinged
and the covering looks quite strong.
The kit comes with all the control rods, control horns and the motor mount is made from ply glued to the foam, the nose has 2 protruding
nose sections that look like they will protect the motor from those odd hard landings.
An under carriage mount and legs would be nice as belly landing in the winter would soon make the underside of the plane very grubby and
could damage the foam over time.

The first part of the build is to strip the covering from the center of the underside of the tailplane in order to allow the glue to take sufficiently for a strong joint.
To do this I used a scalpel and gently slit the plastic and teased it away from the foam.



I used 2 part epoxy, though a glue gun could also be used. Do not use Ca glue as it will melt the foam.
( if unsure of what glue to use, test a small area first to check it does not melt the foam)

Then do the same to the fin and glue together.


The next job is to fit the servos for the rudder and elevator, I used cheap micro servos from Hobby King and they were fixed to the inside
of the fuselage using sticky pads.

The control rods are supplied in the kit as are the control horns, the horns just push through a slit in the foam and then the retainers just clip on to hold them in place.

Bending the ends of the control rods is a bit tricky and this is where a plan or written instructions would be useful ( you could lay the control
rods on a plan to get the bends just right).

two thin dowels make up the wing retaining points and these just push through the foam, I used a small drill twisted in my fingers to make neat
holes and then smeared a small amount of glue to hold them in place.
The main wing has all the control rods for the ailerons already fitted and all you need to do is to fit the central servo in the underside of the
wing center, two small control rods have to be cut and bent to shape, the shape of these are quite complicated and a plan here would be a god send.

Moving onto the motor and esc fitting, I already had a 145watt 20amp esc combo from BRC in my collection so opted to fit these.
This will give the Breeze a bit more oompf than the recommended set up, so should provide a good turn of speed when flying.
Fitting is fairly simple, just 4 holes for the motor mount screws and 1 hole for the motor wires to run through, I stuck some Velcro on the inside
floor to hold the esc, battery and receiver down.

That’s it really, use the right glue and you could be flying in a couple of hours.

Right lets fit a battery, join the wings on and go flying.
Check the c of g is at 1/3rd of the chord for starters, test all the controls and that the motor works.
Take a deep breath, open her up and give a firm throw.


At full power she lept up into the air like a scalded cat, backing off the throttle to about half way we did a gentle circuit and trimmed it out.


Very slight down elevator and a touch of left rudder was all that was needed to keep her nice and level.
Turns are neat and tidy, she climbs smoothly under half power and will loop and roll comfortably.
at full power she will go vertical, reduce the power to the barest minimum and the stall is just a gentle nod, back off the elevator and
she picks up and fly s level again.


Landings are simple to achieve, just line her up, back off the throttle and she will glide down into a nice touch down.


To sum up, the Britflight Breeze is a great plane for those who want a first trainer as it has no nasty habits or for those more experienced
who would like a plane that they can just chuck in the back of the car for those snatched moments at the field.

The Britflight Breeze is definitely more than a toy, its a great little plane for all to enjoy.

Hit the "Reply" button ... not the "Quick Reply" Tom. ..... you should be able to see a row of smilies above the text box. .... in fact, you've got a whole text editor to play with.
I should also ask what browser you're using .... this place (Like many others) doesn't like Internet Explorer ... we suggest Firefox or Chrome.

You should also look in on "Live Chat" ... it gets to it's busiest each evening about 9pm.

Yes thats a good idea how is the Breeze and has it helped your flying I know its helped your repair skills.

just take it out and lob it into the air.
rolls, loops, stall turns ok.
dont like inverted.

I struggle with inverted prefer standing up myself.
