Cartwheeled and crashed the HobbyKing DC-3 was created by DominicM

My buddy James brought his new radio controlled DC-3 out for its maiden flight yesterday (Christmas Eve). It didn't quite go to plan...good outcome in the end though. A bit of fibre tape and persistence pays off.

Battle of Britain flight have a Dak. Used for multi-engine training, rather than wear Merlins out.

On that first flight and crash, I couldn't see any aileron deflection when the model rolled.

If I recall - Air Atlantique also fly a couple on charters.

Looked as though the first take off had'nt reached flying speed. It also looked a tad tail heavy to me. Well done on perserverinmg

At the end of the vid, he did say he'd moved the battery forward.

He'd gone with the CG stated on the RCGroups thread. Transpired it wasn't correct. For second flight he pushed the flight pack forward to get the HobbyKing CG and it flew well. Weird how it would be wrong on a thread dedicated to the model but hey ho. In hindsight he might have got away with it if it had kept it on the deck with down elevator until it got more speed up. Would have still jumped in the air but probably could have trimmed it out. I had that happen with an ME262 EDF model.

I've flown in one of the Air Atlantique DC3's. The sticky tape holding the headlining up, just above my head didn't exactly inspire confidence......
