A4b - The winged V2

Soon after I got the Bachem Natter to fly reasonably I wondered how much more extreme would it be possible to go with a controllable powered plane.

My Natter uses a pusher prop in place of the Walter rocket motor so how about an RC pusher A4 (V2) ? Made out of Depron of course!

The A4b was winged version intended to double the range by gliding.

Some prototypes were tested in 1944. There is a video on YouTube.


A static vertical take off might be a bit hard but a gyro for stability in roll would be quite feasible and probably a necessity.

Say 60" long, 25" span and weighing 16oz.

Nothing firm though - I am still thinking!

Hmmm - "bog" is Australian slang for a toilet - in the sh*t so to speak - that could be appropriate.

Bog is a toilet here in Uk as well but "dunny" is pure Oz!

For landing it would be important that the body rather than the point of the nose hit touched down when the fin hit the ground so I adjusted the fin shape slightly with the control surface as part of the fin rather than just 'added on' as in the prototype A4b.


Still thinking but it would be relatively simple to make and it would look spectacular in the black and white block markings.

Actually not far off the dunny description that bog lol! Don't worry chaps- Simon does a great impression of Tarzan- have seen it with my own eyes, he can swing through trees over that boggy stream beating his chest AND recover a plane in a blink of an eye

I don't think the NASA launch would have been a complete success anyway.

Solid booster number 6 was not working.
Unless this was intentional and matched on the other side both to be fired a bit later in the launch sequence it is unlikely the satellite could have achieved the correct obit.

I wont have that problem with my A4b as I shall be using the reliable MK1 'arm' booster.
