Free Flight Scale - 3 Axis Stabilisation

Heading to Italy for a break and while I am en route, I am contemplating a winter building program (as you do when the temperature is in the high 20's, low 30's)

I have started transferring a 3-view for a DH87B Hornet Moth to CAD with a view to building a model for (health permitting) next years FF Nationals. As I can't get hold of a Mills 1.3 at a sensible price (less than £30 :P ) nor have the tools to make one, it will probably be *lectric powered but I am considering using micro R/C to get it trimmed (lack of local suitable FF sites where I live).

However, I was wondering whether 3 axis stabilisation is allowed (or even considered to be informal cheating) for F/F scale. TBH, it would actually only be 2 axis (R/E), I would allow the dihedral to control roll naturally.

It would allow a bigger model to me made, perhaps 60" span rather than the (about) 45" that I am currently considering.

Any thoughts on this?

Sorry to disappoint you Martin, but BMFA Scale General Rules state:

6.1.1.20 Electronic motion stabilising devices or Gyros

On fixed wing scale models, the use of all types of electronic motion stabilising devices
is forbidden with the exception of fixed wing R/C Indoor models where a penalty is
applied to the flight score.

I would strongly advise you to look at the BMFA Scale Rule Book (bmfa.org/DesktopModules/Bring2mind/DMX/D...PortalId=0&TabId=219) and the BMFA Scale Judges Guides (www.scalebmfa.co.uk/Forms/JUDGES%20GUIDE...15%20ISSUE%203.3.pdf) before embarking on the build of a model.

The Hornet Moth is a good subject for Rubber, CO2, Electric or Power FF, but there are restrictions/requirements on model size, power plant and documentation that may help you decide what is practical to build.

Thanks both and sorry for the delay replying - just managed to find a WiFi connection that seems to work. I had a feeling that may have been the case, just lack of access to rules while on the road. No problem, 1/8 scale gives a 48" span model, perhaps a bit bigger than I really wanted, 1/10 equates to about 38" span . I'll publish the design here if there is any interest..

No problems. The 3 view I am working to doesn't seem too good though but at 1/10 scale any typo errors will be lost.
