Build-along-a Fury

Some of you loiter on the RCM&E forum as well as this one, and may have seen a build-along I started with a colleague a few years ago. We built a Dennis Bryant Chipmunk. The build has been great fun and the idea was to push your own limits beyound your comfort zone. For some just building from a plan was a first, others had never applied rivets or rib tapes and added detail to a model.
It was a great success and even though Only a half dozen of those started were completed lots was learned. There are still another two or three stragglers who are determined to finish.
Anyway I was Co-erced er bullied, Invited to run another such build. I have teamed up with that ever enthusiastic and very capable modeller Martyn K. Even our own mr Scale Andy Sephton is joining in!
The model is another Dennis Bryant (perhaps we should have learned our lesson on the DB Chipmunk Anyway we are older and wiser now. The model is 60" span and although the plan is for IC we will be doing electric too.
So if you fancy joining in then pop over to the RCM&E forum and let us know. I will try and do a build on here as I think Andy is going to do too.

As I say the model we have chosen is the Dennis Bryant Hawker Fury MkI and this could easily be tweaked into a Nimrod.
I have struck a deal with Craig at Traplet, and he is giving a 20 percent discount on top of the current sale price of plan, laser cut parts, cowl and spinner.

Well, it looks like I'm well and truly in on this one, having ordered my set and three-view from Traplet this morning!

I'll be starting a thread on here and RCM&E when the build proper starts next year, and I'll make the decision then as to which one I'm building. Thoughts at the moment are split between the Cranwell training scheme and the replica aircraft I test flew some years ago that, I believe, currently resides in Belgium. The black and white fin and elevator should prove to be quite a challenge!

Go on Andy - you know you want to - when it comes to buying the black and white dope for the tail, make sure that you get chequered, not striped!

The Hawker Fury is one Biplane i have always wanted to build i even started the plans back in oct 2016.


Looks like i will have to get them finished off and think about joining in, on the side sort of thing.
as mine is 1/4 scale and Depron, so it would not be fair on the others if i posted on here.

Hi Tony, it really isn't a mass build it is some experienced builders leading the way for some less experienced builders. Enabling them to have a crack at a model they are unsure they could build. Scale buddying I guess.
On the level of your skills, I don't think this is anything you need, but seeing yours come together will be fascinating all the same, you will also have input into the comparisons between a plan and docs and photos. This is all great information.
So please join in, the group will be stronger with you on board.
You do realise that if you cannot exceed the level of detail in my 1/6 Fury with your 1/4 scale behmoath then you will be sent to sit at the back of the class

I appreciate this project is focussed on the RCM&E forum, but I am afraid that is who I write for. I haven't thrown it open to other forums as I usually do because this forum has some good people in it that enjoy building scale models.
The discount (available until 31/7/2017) is nearly 40% and I have done that deal personally with Traplet.

In just 24 hours since the launch 10 kits have been sold so the project will happen.

I know the build has not started yet.
but if i leave the 3D design parts till the start date, it will be another year of designing before i can make a start.

so here is the mk1 instrument panel in 1/6th scale.


there are masses of bits that i want to print, so i shall work on them in the run up to the start date.

designed and printed some panel fittings today. ( between printing engine parts)

just test pieces, but i think they will look the part once glued onto the fuselage.
