Little V was created by ronstv
My next project is the "Little V" vtail 36" sloper.
Has anyone seen or heard of one before. Lovely very easy to build slope soarer designed in 1969 by Lou Weihs.

I'll be using a vtail mix though and not the sliding servo method.

lovely work so far sir.
nice looking little aircraft.
the sliding servo is unusual, but i suppose before mixes it was how things were done.

Thanks Tony for the comments,
Fuselage is covered in blue solartex. Love the colour
I think the sliding servo method is all there was back in 1969, looked a bit clunky.

Ron

PS This plan is available on Outerzone free of charge, Why not have a go! lovely simple build.

Can you imagine, no mixes, no reversing, servos came in 2 flavours, red or black, depending whether you wanted normal or reversed!
Of course, Garry was a boy then, aside from me he's about the only other one who'll remember!
Back on topic, that fuselage looks the bees knees, is that paint or cover of some kind?

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Hi Klipkopwildlife

I can remember the black n red servos or gold n silver if you were on sanwa.
Yes I'm quite happy with the covering. It went on well. Its solartex light blue. Wings will be covered in solartex "natural" with a blue leading edge. Not built them yet though.
Just got the tail on.

Haha, some "Boy" Klippy, I was 34 yrs old then, however, I do remember the sliding servo system, and the black and red servos, even remember the rubber driven escarpments . Some BOY, but thanks for the compliment Klippy :woohoo: :woohoo:
Anyhow, I have "modded" myself, so back on topic , Lovely model Ron, well built and covered. A great thread

A very nice piece of covering on the fuselage.
That looks a rather shallow angle V tail. My guess it will have rather a weak rudder with quite a noticeable 'anti roll' effect when it is applied.

ps
I don't have to remember red and black servos - I still have them! :P

Hi Quorneng and Gary
Thanks for the comments,

Regarding the angle of the V, I actually thought the same so I double checked it on the plan and it's spot on, maybe it was intentional, not sure. At least it won't be too sensitive.

You may find that the shallow V causes a lot of 'fish-tailing' in flight, as well as anti-roll, as mentioned, ie give left rudder, the model tries to roll right.
Regarding the mechanical mixers, there were two other options - one was a pair of 180 bellcranks on a common pivot mounted in a rocking frame pivoted at the bottom, which was screwed to the fuselage.. The top of the frame was coupled to the elevator servo, and the top of the two bellcranks coupled to the two sides of the aileron (or flap) servo. the bottom of the two bellcranks then connected to the surface. You would probably have to draw it out to see how it works.
The other way I still have an example of -
File Attachment:

File Attachment:

It follows the same principle, the triple ball can turn with the aileron servo, or rock with the elevator servo, or of course, both at once! The centre ball connected to the elevator servo, and the two outers to the control surfaces.
The sliding servo method was prone to be very sloppy in operation.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Wowser I'd forgotten how big they were Mine were Swedish and a bit smaller and Blue and yellow Got them off a Swiss guy . as gift for connecting up the throttle on his Enya 29. I built two Little Vs. The first one went OOS vertically in an August thermal So when I built the second one I stuck an engine on it A Mills .73 I think Had years of fun with it Radio stuff got updated a few times. I too recall rubber escs and the Elmic clock work ones. Modelspan and banana oil. Fry's flux Goblins and visits to the ex W.D. ( MOD ) electrical and electronic surplus shop in Whitechapel ( Liverpool ) for all sorts of goodies to get around problems. Iain and Gerry were great helps. Also in a similar vein P.R.S. in Dale St and Millicans on Mt Pleasant. There seemed to be loads of shops like that in the Pool, Birkenhead and surrounds. Anyway have fun with the build it's looking good so far Good luck John

Anything will fly given enough power

OOPS! Spot the deliberate - those pics I put on are the wrong ones, that's for a sliding servo arrangement! (Equally sloppy). I'll have to look for the rocking ball one in my junk-box.
