Presumably he HAS calibrated the dummy tx to the pc?
Then set the correct stick to operate the correct control surface?
Then set up the correct direction for the sticks vs control surfaces?
These are all set at the user's discretion, and straight from the box, are all over the place!
Then calibrated the tx to the pc again!!

If I recall correctly - put the disk in, and wait for it to start.
When you have the start screen - click on the spanner symbol. (that's settings)
Follow the on screen instructions starting with 'calibrate your transmitter'. It asks you to wiggle the sticks through full travel several times, then click the ok box - and so on. As you do so, you will see several bargraphs moving back and to on the screen.
This allows the pc to find the centre and end positions of the stick movements (electronically!)
Then you have to decide which control to put on which stick. I think there are a row of dots after the bargraphs, and across the top a list of controls. Tick the dot that matches the control bargraph, then go to the flying scene, and wiggle one stick at a time, noting which way the control surface moves relative to the tx stick. Some might need reversing, so go back to the spanner, and click the 'reverse' button on those sticks, back to the flying scene and see if you got it right, etc.
Simple to do, but just a lot of faffing about to get it right.
Don't forget - throttle stick AWAY from the tx aerial is down!
With the model on screen facing away from you -
left rudder on the stick is left rudder on the model.
Up elevator (The same direction as close throttle - away from the aerial) and the elevator on the model moves up.
The ailerons are a bit more tricky - left stick, left aileron goes up, right one goes down.
As you have never flown anything, you can expect to crash a lot. (I like the way the bits fly up into the air and flutter down again!) but you will soon get the hang of it - and crashing on a sim is free!
