A possible very old glider conversion

The first aileron servo installed.
It looks a bit "hanging in mid air" but there is not much structure to fix it too.
Note the little printed piece that will allow a slot in the tissue for the servo arm to poke through.
As I will be using the DX6i and dual servos it will have differential ailerons.

The rest of the wing on the other hand has to be left open to run the servo wire inside. The tip tissue is not yet water shrunk.
I am using JP 'model plane' tissue which works well enough but it is not properly water proof like Model Span so need considerable care.
Model Span can actually be applied damp which speeds up the whole process and being waterproof is subsequently much less 'softened' by the water based Eze Dope.
Still mustn't grumble.

How do you apply eze dope? I use a old art brush but am thinking about trying a foam brush as I find I'm getting streaks in the first couple of coats, they do disappear in subsequent coats though.
I do like it for it's lack of smell and it's light weight ( I use the recommended 70/30 water dope mix).
balsa is best.

I am using a particularly soft brush and I agree that the Eze Dope surface finish on this tissue is not great.
It is rather better on Model Span as its more open structure seems to absorb the dope more consistently.
In my case I am only using a single dope coat as all the tissue will be painted, either water based enamel or "rattle can" spray.
The 'solid' and water proof surface of Depron sheet may never end up as smooth and shiny as dope on tissue but it is rather quicker & simpler to do!

A battery box under the rudder servo is also included so the battery has the potential to to be moved 3" fore and aft to achieve a suitable CofG before having to use ballast.
The snakes have arrived from HK but as before they had been 'wound up' into a bag so they will need to be suspended with weights until they are straight(ish) again!

Try putting your snakes in warm water, the should straighten up nicely.

As the fuselage structure is already painted the intention is for yellow all over but with the movable control surfaces and the spinner black.
The only unknown is how well the doped tissue will take a yellow spray.

The snake is retained at each end and at several points in between by small printed clips.
Note the extended servo arm required to match the long elevator horn.
Although the whole set up is suitably light it took ridiculously long to do and is virtually non adjustable!

Depron?
There is no Depron on this. It will be just balsa & tissue with a few printed parts.

The fuselage tissue substantially complete.
The panels left open are to give access to tie the pull/pull wires to the servo arm.
It has been water shrunk. The next step is to paint the fin and rear section of the fuselage prior to installing and connecting up the rudder.
Only then can the fuselage covering and painting be finally completed.

How are you proposing to join your rudder wires to the servo?
