Saturn 2.4 radio was created by Eric
Regular readers will have seen that I had one of these 'toy' r/c radios (tx and rx £40 new!) that decided to stop working after two flights.
After scouring the internet looking for a solution, I was told by Slough Radio Models that this is how to re-bind it.

If the below does not help, try calling Ripmax customer services as the binding process can be flaky

Whilst holding the small button down in the receiver, power up the receiver, the LED should blink fast, not a slow steady blink, then release the small button
Press and hold the bind button on the front of the transmitter, whilst switching it on. Be careful not to release the bind button accidentally during the process

The receiver should bind whilst the bind button is being held, if it does not, release and re-press the bind button on tx whilst everything is powered up

Haha! I said that is what they say to do, not that I did it! I'll let you know - first I've got to find a spare servo to plug in!

My micky mouse Skyartec 2.4 has a really simple binding procedure - simpler even than the Spekky.

Back to the Saturn - no it didn't work!
I've tried, and tried, and tried, but it simply will not re-bind.
The transmitter is transmitting, because although I don't have any audio receiver that will tune 2.4, I can tune 1.2, and I can hear the tx burbling away when the scanner is close to the transmitter.
So I can only assume that the receiver has gone deaf.

Interestingly (to techno-types!) The toy tx audio sounds like a mis-matched twin plane in the distance, ie rurrarurrarurrra.
The Spekky makes a much faster but regular burring noise, and
The Futaba a higher pitched burr, so I'm assuming it has a higher frame rate.
Unlike with the old-style 27 and 35 Meg trannies, there is no change of tone when you move the sticks about.
I'll have to try to make an RF probe that works at these high frequ's, so I can see it on the sillyscope.

That's because it's pulse width changes, the frequency then remains the same.

Not quite sure what you are meaning, Klippy - the frequency remained the same with the old 27 and 35 meg gear, and the pulse widths of the channels varied with the stick movement. If you listened to the audio on a monitor, you could hear the tones change as you moved individual sticks. With the Futaba and Spekky 2.4, the audio tone doesn't alter. So the digital data being transmitted is in a different mode to the old analogue tones.

I've just been given a boxed Saturn 6ch transmitter, however, there's no receiver included. Just wondering what type of receiver I can use that will bind with it? I suppose I should also ask if it's worth keeping, or would I be better off buying, say, a 2nd hand Spektrum DX6i?

Most grateful for any help as the last RC system I owned was a MacGregor one channel non-proportional system in 1973...

Many thanks,

Crashrr.

I think the Saturn TX only works with a Saturn RX unfortunately. As to wether its worth keeping I guess it depends what you want to use it for, if you're after a tx that will work with a myriad of small Rx's right down the micro stuff then the Spectrum is the way to go. I was thinking of getting a Spectrum myself for indoor/lightweight RC as like the Saturn my Multiplex Royal TX only works with Multiplex Rx's and even the smallest is too big for a small model...... but then all these FF projects keep getting in the way

Perhaps this will be of assistance www.google.co.uk/search?q=Saturn+Tx+and+...ceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
I am the other way round. Was given the 6CH Rx but no Tx. However I know where to find one when the time is right

Anything will fly given enough power

IF - you can get them to talk to each other!
The rx I had worked better after I'd put it in a bench vice, and wound the handle up really tight!
I think I used the tx for spare parts for something else.
p.s. this thread IS nearly five years old! [badass]
