Proxxon saw was created by Klipkopwildlife
I have a Proxxon table saw, wonderful piece of kit until recently. The blade seems to 'ring' while cutting and spoils the cutting finish by causing a back cut. I'm using an 80mm TCT 24 tooth blade. I have 2 blades, both have the same problem.

and this is the kind of damage I'm getting.

I've replaced the bearings (2 x 698Z if anyone's interested) and given it a really good clean to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?

To blacken the wood means the blade is getting too hot or put another way there is too much friction in the cut.
The most common cause is either the cutting edge is not as sharp as it should be and/or the teeth have an insufficient 'set' on alternate teeth.
Carbide teeth do wear and once they do the blade is limited to only light and thin material.

I am however a bit suspicious of the tooth shape on your saw. From the picture they does not appear to be as 'aggressive' as those on my table saw.

Now 8 years old and still on its original factory fitted blade and yes it also 'rings' noticeably as the cut finishes.;)

Probably teaching Granny - but is the blade in the right way around?

pushing the wood through to fast can do that especially if the blade is past its best.

balsa is best.

This is the spare blade Simon, cutting and clearance angles are all OK. I haven't as yet tried re-sharpening. Any burning that I get is caused by Mary when we run long lengths through (she can't see straight!) Under a fluorescent light you can clearly see the standing wave in the blade when it happens. I tend to use this saw to cut Teak and occasionally Perspex, it could be that I'm expecting too much blade life. Surprisingly nobody mentioned the lack of any safety covers, I admit I don't use them, they're a pain in the butt!
The local agent wants 50 quid for a new blade, I have new blades on order from Banggood, thanks for the advice guys.

"I tend to use this saw to cut Teak.."
Ah!
Next to Lignum Vitae Teak is about the hardest wood to cut :woohoo:
It has natural oils and rubber within its structure. Brilliant for resisting rot and insect attack but not good for a efficient clean cut.
Saw blades have to be 'sharp' sharp and with a light feed.

If you can see the blade bowing under 50 cycle light it does rather suggest it is caused by a high feed pressure rather than any ringing effect which has a minute amplitude and high frequency. Normally the wood still in contact with the blade after the cut dampens any rigging tone which is why it is normally only heard as the wood fully leaves the blade on finishing the cut thus removing any damping.

The Teak is 12 to 14mm Tony, yes close to the top end for the Proxxon which will go to 22mm thick. Having spent many years in the engineering industry I know the perils of cutting too slowly. Being only a low wattage motor it's difficult to cut too fast. I initially bought the machine to cut the Teak planks (1.5mm thick) for a model boat I had planned. Now stalled for various reasons. Using a table saw with 3.2mm blade just seemed a criminal waste of resources!

As good as they undoubtedly are, these saws don't like being asked to cut really hard or tough materials. I guess at the end of the day the motor is small, and the power/torque is limited. I find 1/4 balsa and 1/8 ply are about it's limits. I wouldn't be without mine though. I'm fortunate enough to have a DeWalt site saw with a 10 inch blade, in my garage for the thicker, tougher stuff!

P.S. I just realised, my Proxxon saw is the smaller bench top job. I see you have the bigger more powerful job! Sorry!!

No worries, nice to see you. As an addendum, I cleaned all the old material off the blade behind the teeth, end of problem!, Yes really!
