One for you radio experts...
After the fun and games of my Slickers maiden ( and very nearly it's last flight) I've been having a look at the radio installation...binned the switch, hate the bloody things and decided to use a fly lead from the rx and plug the battery into that.
In the process of taking the switch out I found I had it plugged into 4th channel on the rx ( Spektrum AR410) rather than the socket marked battery!! while it obviously worked on the ground including the range check does anyone think this may have effected things in the air?
Just off to give myself a good talking to....:(

balsa is best.

No difference at all Paul, the battery lines are common across the back of the PC board. On Futaba, when you plug the ESC in it goes on Channel 3 to feed the rest of the servos.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Ditto. - The + and - are common across all sockets, it is only the signal wire that is individual.
If you use an esc, that plugs into the throttle socket, and provides volts for all the servos, the data from the rx tells the esc what to do. A flight pack or bec can be plugged in to any spare socket, and if there isn't one, you can plug in a Y lead, with the servo on one leg, and the volts on the other.
-
If you break into a typical (hopefully scrap!) rx switch, it is a flimsy little thing with little brass stubs protruding from the baseplate, and the slider has thin tiny brass U shapes that bridge the pins.
Time, and/or heavy current can burn these things out.
Very few e-flight people use a switch between the battery and esc/rx, because it is the weakest portion of the system, and if that fails, you have a model that looks like my trainer does at the moment!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Thanks chaps, I thought that was the case but worth asking!
I agree Eric those switches are crappy...Not sure why I even fitted one tbh, two of my other models have no switch...maybe I just had it in stock???
