Thanks quorneng, read that quite some time ago now.

Been checking my aeromodeller mags and books but still no picture.

I think I am gunna go with a missing washer. The engine will run with no silencer, so that's the first test.

Later in the month, you ok to check the Rx please ?

Just run it as intended Rich, as Q said it was developed as a race engine, have you ever run it?
If you ever want to move it on...give me a shout

I assume you were asking Q that? If you are close enough to him to take it there, you are near me, too!
Check it for what? Either it works, or it doesn't. The only real check you can make is the RANGE check, and that needs your transmitter as well.
Take the prop off, for safety, switch tx on, switch rx on, scroll through the settings until you find 'range', ok that, check you still have control, then walk way from the model, occasionally waggling the sticks until you can either not see the control surfaces move - due to distance - or because the receiver has 'lost contact'.
Every radio has a different range check procedure and effective 'test' range, but it should be detailed in the manual.
-
You can also check the fail-safe is correctly set. Everything turned on - open the throttle to about half, then turn the transmitter off. The motor should run for a few more seconds, then stop. If it goes to full throttle, you've got the fail-safe set backwards!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

The engine, I have never seen it run...

Any info on it regarding the exhaust query would be good. A picture showing if the exhaust collecter is right way up or not would be good.

Been looking in my mags but no joy thus far.

I will run the engine with the collecter off, for now.

Rx, I think it was quorneng who volunteered to check out the Rx, to see if it works or not.

Awaiting some xtals...

It's the correct Rx for the futaba skysport 4, t4vf tx...

Move it on ?

I would like to make a period frog c/l model for it...but perhaps since this engine is a tiny bit special, it should not be put "at risk" ?

To me it's an engine to be used, and would be worth "a new paw 1.5cc with silencer" or similar.

I have a couple of old working engines, DC bantam, dc sabre, Enya RC 06, os pet 2, am 15, mercos, aps 46? and the metal door stop to name a few.

Moe has a few, paw, C's, it's moes skysport radio set, stored in my loft.

I have a few boats I would like to move on but waiting feedback from someone. If that feedback is an n i, I would like to advertise on here first, if sold then donation from sale to site funds, which is only fare I feel...

Ugh! Crystals! I remember those, and queueing for ages for the 'peg' for a five minute flight!
So many in the club at that time, that if you got three flights in a day at the Weekend, you were doing well!
I still have a skysport 6 and a couple of matched rx's and crystals kicking around. I tried to sell them at the club, a while back, but nobody was interested.
Will I ever use them - doubtful - old technology, although Futaba gear IS reliable. The tx battery died years ago.
I still have my Reftec 459 Megs gear, too, but the rx's have stopped working. I think the crystals have gone off-tune, and cannot be bought anywhere, except from a specialist manufacturer, who wants an arm, a leg, and your house as a deposit! The receiver case was so big it probably wouldn't fit into any model you can buy, now, you'd have to build something for it - and the servo plugs are the old M' series, which don't connect to modern servos either!
-
Anyway, that's WAY off-topic!

The only test I could do on your rx would be to take a crystal out of one of my planes, put it in your Rx (assuming it fits, there are two sizes!) and check it works with my transmitter.

There is a risk that random 'mix and match' crystal sets might not work well together. The recommendation was always to get a Tx and Rx pair from the same manufacturer.
For example Futaba were known for manufacturing their crystal pairs slightly 'off spec' so they would not work reliably with anybody's 'on spec' ones!

Frog, seen instruction sheet, the silencer ring is on the right way, alloy up.

Still feel there is a washer missing as the cooling jacket spigot is way too small.

Anyway I ran the frog up this afternoon.

Quite loud minus the silencer, easy starter and seems to have lots of "go" on an 8 X 4 prop.

Not let it get "on song" yet as some washers needed, for prop "nut", spray bar and cooling jacket.

Tommy bar needed as compression screw undo's whilst running. Contra piston free.

This engine has some potential I feel. D1000 fuel.
