My progress is exactly as Smartymarty has just described. The worrying thing I found being a beginner was the negative attitude I received from club secretaries whilst trying to join.Better to visit the field and talk to the people that actually fly.I approached a couple of local clubs without success and the one I joined was by way of a guy seeing a model in the back of my car and terlling me about my present club and arranging to take me there. We dont have a club trainer but good instructors and members that bend over backwards to help .Joining Modelchat is probably the best thing youve done Sarah and tying up with someone like Poly or Eric someone local will hwlp you start off in the right direction

I don't DO tying up, whips, handcuffs, etc. Whatever gave you that idea?

Then - there are a few I know who could do with being shot twice daily at daybreak and dusk.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

woooahhhhhhh where did it go from advice regarding planes and joining a club....to whips, chains and tying up? lol lol, did I blink and miss that bit? fraid me dungeon has a permanent lock on it at the mo so you all going to have to go round and use Eric's

I agree with all you say re the club, just am a tad nervous of going for the first time but once this placement (which has been 8 weeks of hard slog) and my last assignment is done at the end of this month am free to go. Only club that got back to me was the mid Cheshire one and I will go along and see what they recommend but yeah I admit, I am impatient and I want to learn to fly asap (female trait).

BUT I also want to learn how they work, cos that is me- I dont do things by half's and dont believe in just flying it. I am a pretty resourceful person, being a single parent for 18 years have had to do all my own stuff, teach myself etc etc all I ask is for a bit of patience sometimes as brain doesn't always take stuff in that is said esp at the moment. Am a determined person though, and stubborn :silly:

Right Sarah, Pol's going to put his serious head on seeing as it's 2.00am & you know what knock out drops I should have taken hours ago.
You want to learn to fly, but you don't know what model & you don't want to buy one & crash it .... correct? ... I think so.
You will learn to fly & whatever you end up flying, you'll need a transmitter..... buy yourself a Spekky DX6i .... or if you're rich... get a seven..... don't buy a model yet.
Then get in touch with me & learn on one of my slope soarers on a buddy lead.
You can use my Wildthing or one of my other combat models, they're ugly buggers but you can have as much stick time as it takes for you to be confident to fly anything.
When you fly slope combat you'll learn to hit a moving target mid flight ..... not many experts can do that!
You will not break a WildThing ..... if you do, you'll probably get a personal apology from Alan Head & a replacement model!:woohoo:
The reason I suggest a Spekky is because I Have the DX6i (Thanks to Garry & Eric) & it may have to be another Spekky to Buddy up .... I have two JR 35meg Tx's & could buddy you on them before you spend a penny if you wish .... not sure if JR buddy to Spekky or not .... very possible.
If you want to learn to fly .... just get some help & weather it at the Orme for the day.... It's a great day out & all you can lose is your petrol.
I do have a little local site on the Wirral but it relies too heavily on the wind direction to predict.... The Orme is Ok in anything but easterly .....
Please let's not let us get another disheartened flyer who goes out & spends hundreds on broken dreams.

Pol.

I just own the forum .... you guys make it great thanks.

You can do powered combat or even things like "Limbo Dancing" .... you might get a few broken prop's but nothing worse.
Hope this link works. vimeo.com/4713490

I would like to suggest that Martin join us at the Orme but I notice he's from North Yorkshire, it's a hell of a drive but you're more than welcome Martin.

Just in case you haven't come across it already ... I was flying my local test site & Mikey admin (Son) took it upon himself to grab another model & launch over my head ... I landed & grabbed my phone & video's his flight .... I stopped filming before he landed in case he needed help .... but compared to 60mph - 80mph at the Orme .... this was a walk in the park..... This is how to learn to fly. :woohoo:

A trip to the Orme has been on my to do list for ages. Are there any campsites nearby? I'd like to make a weekend of it if poss. I'd go with a SAS Wildthing too Sarah, so long as you can get to a hill, and be accompanied. Best fun you can have with your clothes on (usually).
