dump the electrics....fit diesels!! :)
Seriously though, interesting project, love to see it fly,Mike, just a thought rather than blow it up how about letting one of the electric wizards on here ( not me!) have a go at getting it going?

I would like to try to fight this as much as possible myself with guidance. But I'm not precious enought to not know when i should throw in the towel and hand it over to an expert.

My real passion in life (inherited from dad) is learning. Im will figure all of this out even if it means blowing a few things up HAHA!

I have some of the very basics of electronics thanks to Dad so im not going in completely blind, just severely partially sighted :D

Fight it? - or fix it!
There's another thread n here on how speed controllers and ubec's work. Have a read of that before you start poking things with a hot solderng iron.

Look up on Tinternet, these flight controllers need very specific instructions to boot, mine is throttle on minimum and full right rudder.
Those outputs are going to need all 3 wires in order to work because you've got 4 separate ESC, in my honest opinion. You might like to try with all the reds disconnected first. Another thing you need to make up a commoning connector for the ESC so when you first power up you can do a throttle range preset. (power on with throttle mid range, throttle full, throttle closed, WITH NO PROPELLERS FITTED!)[badass]

Do it now, you may never get another chance

I found the board at Amazon, the first thing it says is connect only one supply lead! So remove all the ESC leads except one!

I see there's another board stacked underneath, what is it?
Since this Quinout board has 8 possible outputs, somewhere, somehow you're going to have to tell the board it's a quadcopter.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

Stick positions to turn the controller on -
A guy at the club brought one the other week, couldn't get it to wake up. We found that throttle closed, full left rudder, and full right ailerons and full up was the key.
(Yes, I know that grass strimmers don't have rudders, etc!)
It flew, but it wobbled about like a drunk standing up in a rowing boat! The settings are wrong, somewhere.

The board underneath is a power distro board supplying the 12V to the ESCs and stepping down to 5V for the RX.

Quad mode is enabled via Cleanflight software and the USB interface.

Im using everything Dad taught me about electronics but i know I'm still WAY out of my depth :woohoo: ...

I now have 4 motors wired in to the ESCs. All spinning in the right direction.
I haven't mounted the flight controller or receiver properly yet. just left it dangling for the purpose of testing motor direction.

Opposing corners going in opposite directions?

"Opposing corners going in opposite directions?"
As far as the sum of the torque goes it doesn't matter how they are placed as long as they are equally spaced from the centre but for gyroscopic effects I think Mike has it right but I could be completely wrong!

surely in order to balance the torque every prop should spin in reverse compared to it's neighbour? IE: cw,ccw,cw,ccw.

4 engine plane. 2 CW on one wing, 2 CCW on the other wing. Assuming they all generate the same torque Is there any overall torque on the airframe?

That's the way I would have set it up ( as mentioned in my previous post).
Simon, I understand what your saying but I was talking about this particular model.
