STF

As usual we are pretty close in agreement.

I just downloaded the Hacker instructions attached, and it is just a simple bind operation and 4 reverse switches and end point adjust for the throttle, there is a mix but that can be ignored.

Eric the English instructions are on page 14.

Not the cheapest but is exactly what the Doc ordered.

Featherman might find this interesting and helpful -

As promised...
this radiolink set is as basic as pos and comes with 2 rx's ( £59.99)

or there's a spektrum DXS, 7 channel for £84.99, again no computer what so ever.

or there's a good old style futaba 6L for £79.99

balsa is best.

Firstly, thank you very much for all your replies. Some, unfortunately were beyond my technical abilities and didn’t grasp my requirements, however, all made interesting reading and will serve me well as I progress. What i have found during this exercise is that the cost of the aircraft is insignificant next to the cost of the electronics and peripherals so if I crash this one(or my grandsons crash it) it will not bother me in the slightest and get the pleasure of building another one and transferring the electronics to it. Of course, if the boys get hooked on model flying then I will progress to better and more expensive equipment for them.
Thanks again for my tutorials - I have learned a lot and a special thanks to Paul D who has totally grasped my requirements and if he lets me have his contact details, I will be buying my R/C equipment from him.

Very best wishes for the new year and stay safe

Brad Featherman
Thanks: Klipkopwildlife, Quorneng, crash happy

Glad I could help Brad, the shop.is Addlestone models ( we have a website) sadly it's not my shop, I'm just the old git that works when no one else wants to and helps out with repairs etc.

Paul

Does the Futaba 6L use their normal Rx's or does it have a dedicated Rx, I think the Skysport has a dedicated Rx.

I think my search on John Hooks behalf was made somewhat more difficult as there were some built in prejudices against certain brands and this narrowed the field.

Is Addlestone Models still in the same location? I remember going in there in the late 80's, I think it was run by a chap called Mike but time could have played tricks on me.

B.

Not sure about the futaba tbh but I can find out.
The shop has moved about 500 yards up the road from where you remember it Barrie, it was then run by two brothers, Mike and Barry, they got into deep financial trouble and sold it to the father of the current owner.

I don't know about the 6L, but the 6EX works with their own or any other receiver that uses the FASST protocol, (ie Orange).

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

I to am new to 2.4 radio gear, have no internet connection or laptop and am doing this on an internet phone.

I may be able to alter a tx via a lead and this phone but need to do more research.

I am mode 1.

I would like a spectrum ideally with some model memory, but an extra model means and extra Rx etc..

In the 35 mhz days just a tx crystal swap to the extra model ( and the permission to fly peg at the club/slope etc. ) Rx crystal frequency was easy.

I have looked at the basic Futaba 6 channel tx combo set and extra RX's, as well as spectrum and extra RX's etc..

Still mulling over and researching before I decide.
If Featherman could give feedback on his decision and reasoning why, that would be good.

Featherman, I have returned to aeromodeling after a 25 year gap, and for RC flying consider myself to be a novice again.

So many rules etc. have changed as well as radio gear, but the basics are still the same.

I used to fly RC 2 channel gliders and slope soarers, 3 channel power then 4 channel power.

Passed A certificate and bronze s/soarers.
I was ready for my B test on powered flying so was reasonably good and experienced.

I now consider myself to be a novice, but will progress rapidly.
Bit like riding a bicycle.

I will start with powered glider on 3 channel so the motor can be shut down, for safety reasons.

2 channel slope soarer as the fuel is free, the air good and the exercise beneficial.

You must first learn to crawl, then walk, run, and finally the marathon.

Consider a slope soarer or powered glider first, only 2 controlled to worry about, rather than 4.

I am in the market for radio gear as I have found black wire corrosion in the Futaba challenger tx, one wire infected, they may be all wires infected.

Second hand gear may also be suffering the same condition, more likely the older the gear is.

Second hand so no guarantee or return, depending how it was described, caviar empire or summut as judge tinder would say, but that a whole different bag of sweets.
Dam predictive text how do you turn it off!

Are your grand kids wondering around the house annoying the parents by saying when the plane is coming towards you, prop the dipping wing with the stick ! Out loud !

You may need to do the same. For a while, just to brush up.
Take your time model making and enjoy.

Ps some feedback on your radio gear choice would be good.
