Yes it the Supermarine type 327 the so called twin engined Spitfire.
The original version with Peregrines and 12 Brownings (6 in each wing outboard of the engines) was to the same specification as the Westland Whirlwind.
This later version with 6 Hispano cannon (3 in each wing root) and Merlins was submitted speculatively in 1938.
The claimed AUW of 11,000lbs does seem a bit optimistic. The DH Hornet grew to a maximum of 20,000lbs and it had a rather bigger wing to start with!
Rejected primarily because the cannon installation was considered impractical.

And it's not a Topper, a Dandy, a Beano, or an Eagle, either! All the other Boulton Paul's had radial engines.

Yup, Hawker Hotspur.Quorneng wrote: It had the same name as a 1933 boys adventure comic.
It's interesting in that it used Hurricane wings! The Air Ministry continued to promote the 'gunship' principle. And the idea that the .303 was good enough in 1890, it's therefore good enough in 1940! How those pilots managed to shoot anything down with pea shooters amazes me!
