The music, the style, the great achievements- would have loved to live through the 30's and 40's, as hard as it was at that time with the war it was a time of great discoveries, tremendous bravery and fortitude....and Perry Como hehe! Plus Nicholettes on the left is quite cute!
Is this plane Japanese by any chance?

funny you should say that though
guy in the co-op tonight was trying to chat me up, wasn't getting anywhere but friendly banter, asking me what I did for a living, how many children I had etc etc- till he dropped a clanger and said " you must be older than me!" cheeky sod said he was 39!
You mean that you're actually younger than me?

What makes you think it might be Japanese?

because you posted the video of the the longest flight distance world record with the Fairey and have found a plane that looks very similar to your pic that was built to break the longest distance flight world record 4 years after the Fairey that is Japanese (incidentally, one of the fairey aviation factories was only down the road from me, Williams Fairey Engineering as it became known in the 80's I think is even closer ). Am not 100% sure so will look at it in more detail tomorrow to compare, eyes going crosseyed trying get my work done tonight

There are a few minor differences, but cant tell if the wings taper off more in the above picture in comparison to yours or if that is just a camera angle difference? Wheels look bigger too in my pic, but then not sure what mk yours is- I know they had problems with the undercarriage on mine so maybe they changed it? Or maybe I need stronger glasses lol!

You got the picture but you did not name it!
I was going to use that very picture but I thought the guy in the white helmet and gloves? looked too Japanese.
If you looked up Fairey long range monoplane it gave a similar plane as the Russian ANT-25. Click on that gave the Bleriot 110. Click on that gave the Gasuden Koken!
How do you think I find these odd ball planes!
If you have never heard of Gasuden as a plane manufacturer its not surprising really its the Tokyo Gas and Electric Industry!
The unique fact is the Koken set the only plane record for the Japanese ever to be recognised by the FAI and there is even a 3 part video of it doing it.

You said you would have liked to have lived in the 1920s.
i expect such a wish is through the rose tinted glasses of history as for the vast majority life was tough. Only the 'well to do' had the benefit of any luxury.
My grandfather started life as a railway porter but 'made good' running his own (horse and cart!) haulage business so my Dad and his two younger sisters had some of the benefits which included an ride in an aeroplane for his seventeenth birthday (1925) with his eldest sister and a photograph to record the occasion.
In an ex WW1 Avro 504 converted to a 3 seater!
I know nothing about the plane or who "EAJ" was, but it certainly appeared to be in immaculate condition!
The final part of the story is when he was in his seventies on a visit to Shuttleworth their 504 was parked in the hanger roped off. To my horror he stepped over the rope, walked to the plane and peered into the rear cockpit.
Not surprisingly an official rushed over "excuse me sir you are not allowed in here" to which he replied "I flew in one of these". Somewhat embarrassed I was rather hoping the ground would swallow me up!
Then another chap came over and I though Oh! oh! but he happened to be the 504's pilot who was most interested to meet someone who had actually flown one when they were still being used as a trainer by the RAF!

No rose coloured glasses lol, I was lucky enough to grow up with both sets of grandparents and great grandparents so had tons of stories of how hard life was then. My great gran used to walk the 10 miles everyday to and from the Manchester Deaf school in Old Trafford (school was featured in the old film "Mandy") being profoundly deaf from birth, it was the only school available to her. eeeh and I remember for the first two years after having Andrew not having any heating in the house, no cooker, no fridge and a twin tub ( I loved that twin tub!), whilst walking the 3 miles to the nearest supermarket and walking back with the shopping on the bottom of the pram haha! Times were 'ard then and that was 1994!
