- Wind turbines. I'm a big fan.
Somebody called me 'pretentious' the other day.
I nearly choked on my latte.

I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'special'.
Who made it? What engine it used? How many were made?

But what you didn't get is that it was made by Boeing! (Well, their apprentices!)
Try this one -
if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Quorneng wrote: Well done Willowlea but if you've done the reading as Klippy asked what was 'special' about it?
hmmm ok, well only 3 were made (and not successful either although the design did help improve the Ki-61which followed). At the time Japanese fighter planes were usually light armed, highly manoeuverable (acrobatic style- which is another reason they didnt like it as the KI 60 meant the acrobatics were compromised) with light weight structures- the Ki 60 was different in that it was going to be the opposite, a heavily armed fighter with heavy machine guns meant to be synchronised to fire through the spinning prop blades
Japanese aircraft used air cooled radial engines, the Ki-60 was their first aircraft to use liquid cooled.
ermmm...it failed lol, hence only 3 made, for a number of reasons
it had lateral instability in the air
the controls were too heavy and had a poor response
it had a high stalling speed
it didn't reach the speed when flying they had estimated and was too slow
not sure which bit is the special bit though lol
