2 bad falls in a matter of days has curtailed my model time, it's all I can manage to keep up with the demands of life. My knees have recovered but 2 weeks on my hip is still bad, I can't bend, but it is improving. I have managed to do a bit to the Seagull, programming is an issue, Elevon rudder mix is okay, Elevon differential and direction is okay for left and right but I can't get the Elevons to reverse, up is down and down is up. I've been using 'Flying wing' as the type, this morning I'll try 'Delta'

I've been doing some painting as well.

Well, I've managed to do a bit, weighed the flight ready frame without a battery, 452.4gms. The recommended flight weight is 560gms which leaves me 107.6gms. A 2s is recommended, I have 2 but they're 202gms each and don't fit! I do have a 3s 1,300mah at 107gms. While 2s is recommended I'm going to go with the 3s, that's what the throttle is for!

The 3s battery is not quite (5mm) all the way in the nose.

I believe the original Plane Print Seagull used the early & light AEO 40 mm EDF which was rated for a 2s. I used 4 of them in my Concorde. I actually 'fried' one testing it on 3s.
It depends on exactly which 40 mm EDF you have but certainly the current AEO 40 mm is a bit heavier with a more powerful lower kV motor but is ok for 3s.
The one that flew in the Essential RC videos used a Dr Mad 40 mm EDFs on a 1500mAh 3s..

I'm using one of these it seems it's not really rated for 2s, so 3s it is. I'm going to have to be a bit careful, the biggest Esc I have is 40amp.

If you really take 40A from a 1300mAh it is going to discharge it pretty fast. like 2 minutes tops!
From the videos it does appear the Plane Print Seagull 'cruises' quite nicely on significantly reduced power. It does after all loop power off!

Since the smaller battery gives me both CoG and target weight I'm going to stick with it for Maiden and testing.
I've been setting up control throws and differential, all fine until I came to Throttle mix, I don't like throttle mix, the main problem is that zero mix + deflection is at throttle centre, which can give some strange effects at closed or fully open. I then spent several days failing to get any kind of mix until I realised that I should be mixing to aileron, not elevator! Duh. Mixing to Ail and Ail2 does the trick, 2mm up at closed and 2mm down at WoT.
My next problem is that I get different, tiny, amounts of deflection as I open and close the throttle which will give small amounts of turn, not nice, more later.

I got a chance to hold Tony's seagull. A beautiful beastie indeed.  No flight yet as Tony's fingers are needing more practice on less daunting models....
