so after studying lots of pictures i have got a rough idea worked out.
feel free to shoot me down on this one, though only if you have any better ideas.

the front cockpit former will be 6mm ply. the one behind the front seats will be 3mm ply. both going over the top of the cockpit.
the fixed wing center section will have 2 6mm ply ribs glued to the fuselage.
the wing mounts will be like the original, being 2 u brackets on each side joined together diagonally across the top of the fuselage by piano wire.
the wings will bolt onto these and be supported by piano wire struts back to the 6mm ply floor.
the rear of the cockpit roof where it runs back to the rest of the fuselage will also be piano wire fixed to the cross brace and fixed to the ply fuselage former.
then glazed.
should look like the original method but maybe a tad over scale due to strength issues.

will it work??
help please.

No negative g?
The most Auster were placarded +4g to -2g.
The intermediate bracing halves the effective strut length allowing it to take compression loads.
The Aiglet was actually cleared for aerobatics but the rather low Vne meant you had to know really what you were doing.

Ah, thanks Simon, I didn't spot that, that triangle of forces on the outer wing halves is going to make a huge difference.

Very nice Tony, you're very clever I wouldn't have a clue where to start drawing plans,
Hopefully we will get to see this come together I could do with picking up some tips quite fancy building a 1/4 scale cub soon.

Somebody called me 'pretentious' the other day.

I nearly choked on my latte.

i think i am going to start again with the plans for this.
not happy with the build method i was going to use.
i think i will go back to the old method of building and try to make the model a lot more like the original in construction.
been looking at balsa dowel for the fuselage structure.hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Tony, would you like me to try to contact the owners of that Auster, and see if they will let me crawl all over it with a camera?
Are there any bits you would particularly like to see?

had a bash at curving some 6mm dowel, yeah right. that went well. :P

ended up :P laminating some wet balsa into the shape i need.
just hope it is the right shape after this.

ok it needs to be sanded into a dowel shape before i do any more.
might have a stab at making up the rudder tomorrow if it drys ok.

Here's a hint from the scale boys Tony. For wing tips, tailplanes and fins, to keep the shape and help prevent crushing after the inevitable dings, we first cut a core to the shape of the item of either 1/32", 1/16" or 3/32" balsa (thickness depends on size). Then either laminate an outline on the outside of the core in balsa, or laminate it on each side in turn, or use ali tube or carbon rod for the outline. Then stick half ribs and spars on each side in turn and when it's covered, you'll have a strong, light and warp free structure. If you're pinning the core down flat on the plan to make the first side, you may need to modify the order of construction.

By using dowel I presume you are emulating the steel tube construction of the original?.
