well I am not sure whose idea it was to do a Cub, that front windscreen is a bit of a mare....

thought I would start by wasting paper, then move on to wasting acetate ;)

It's OK Danny, that's why they call them air plain tyres!
I'm loving this build, I have many happy memories as a tuggie in a Super Cub.

Do it now, you may never get another chance

You managed to get into a Cub, Klippy? All seven foot fourteen of you? :P

Glad you are enjoying the build, so am I. I learn something new at evry turn and it will all stand me in good stead for my next bigger RC Scale model I am sure.
Still motoring on with the canopy glazing, going okay but I dont like to do more than one section at a time, then let it dry. So it is slow going.

So no more until this dries....

It may be too late, but the Cub had sight glasses for the fuel tanks on the inside of the wing roots, easy to paint on and no weight penalty! The glass had a little red ball that floated up and down but disappeared when the tank was full,.........or empty! We lost a tug and a pilot like that, :( Lycomings don't run too well on fresh air!

I did try for ages to think of how I could replicate those glass tubes, the best i could come up was melting some clear plastic sprig from a plastic model, and stretching it to the required thickness, but in the end I felt it was more trouble than it was worth. There are also some tubes that enter the cockpit through the rear bulkhead, not sure what they do, but they are also prominent. I also failed miserably to come up with a way to replicate them too.

I have fitted a small steel washer to the underside of the pilot figure, and a small neodimuim magnet is attached to the seat. This means the figure is removable for static judging, but easily fitted for the flying sections. Assuming of course that the event continues....

Cheers
Danny

Do you know of anyone who is an angler? You could cadge some line from them. It may have to be fly line for the right thickness ..Or go to an angling shop and see if you can get some samples.. Not worth buying a whole line.Just a crazy idea [badass]

Anything will fly given enough power

Or maybe a bit of nylon line from a strimmer?
p.s. or a toothbrush bristle?

Hi Chaps, thanks for that, good ideas :) I have some fly fishing line and some heavier duty sea fishing line. Will take a look :) I also have some fibre optic tube somewhere.... Might be difficult to fit now that the glazing is in but I will take a look.
The main focus at the moment is to get the model flayable for saturday afternoon. If it doesn't fly then all this may be moot.

The struts are carbon with adjustable ends, so I can increase decrease the dihedral a bit. The parkzone Cub I have is almost scale with regards dihedral, so I am hoping to get away with something close to scale.

Oh I know it is not important apart from the wing loading limit. My target weight was less that 140g
My all up weight, (minus paint) is now 62g Quite pleased with that [badass]

Cheers
Danny

Very nice.
It does seem a bit odd with all the trouble you have gone to that the U/C and the wing struts are not true scale also. Or am I missing something?

The struts will be replaced with scale ones after I know it flys. The carbon strut allows some adjustment, when I have the dihedral as close to scale as I can, and it still fly in a stable manner then I can make some much more scale like. The undercarriage will also get the dangly bits underneath, if that's what you mean Q?

It is yet to be painted too obviously B)

Cheers
Danny

Pipes in the rear bulkhead? Not sure, there's nothing there unless it's the lead ins for the flying wires. The release for the tow cable also goes through there.

On G-BBYB just the pipes come through the rear bulkhead. On this Cub there is a cylinder back there with feed pipes.....

Here are the glass tubes mentioned in an earlier post. No electrics in G-BBYB so none of the other gubbins was present in G-BBYB.

Hopefully fly the cub tomorrow afternoon, fingers crossed.

Cheers
Danny

Hmm, no comment on the cylinder, unless the aircraft had some kind of 'rate of climb' gizmo. Maybe even electronic? Jeez, I've been out of a cockpit for far too long.

Looking at that mystery cylinder, it appears to be some owner-fitted add-on, because the U brackets aren't squared up. Also, as there is a clearly visible seam along it, I'd suggest that the outer skin was just padding or insulation.
Two pipes in, one out, (or v/v), rubber hose, and jubilee's suggest fairly low pressure fluids.
Either the rear bulkhead had been freshly painted when this pic was taken, or the item was very rarely removed for inspection/servicing, because there is no disturbed paintwork on the brackets or cover.
What it was for - - - ??
It can't be a rudimentary cabin heater, as the Cub engine is air-cooled, and you wouldn't pad or insulate a radiator! :S
