Agreed about the modest increase in speed due to the weight however although the lift increases by the square of the speed so does the drag.
So a 15% increase in weight also needs a 15% increase in power to lift it or to put it another way it results in a 15% reduction in whatever 'spare' performance the plane has. ;)

"To increase performance - add lightness"

Andy & Q, I love reading all this tech stuff about drag and lift etc, as a non modeler/ flyer, I can see there is just as much thought and planning goes into the design and build as flying the model, following with interest, boz ;) :)

Still testing and adjusting the Piper Cub. I am pleased to say adjustments are making the model easier to fly, but I still need to get used to it.
I am yet to add more detail but I thought i would concentrate on the flying for now.
This shot is of flight 7 about to commence, pleased to say it is the first flight that ended with a real landing not an arrival!

Anybody else going to enter the Indoor Scale Nats?

Cheers
Danny

You have some very nice albums Danny, I see you have a head cam in the piper cub pics, did you use that for some of your latest pics? also what is your connection with the sprite at Castle Coombe?, boz :) ;)

Hi Boz, the headcam allows me to record all my flights, I don't fly much but have a shocking (seriously) memory so I can study the flights and I talk to the camera sometimes so I know what trims are needed.... I know sad but needs must. The image from the camera is what you see when I post videos of maidens etc.
The still pics are taken with a Nikon D810, my wife had some brief instructions and took those. She didn't realise that she needed to let the lense focus before holding the trigger down!! anyway what you see in the album is the half useable ones from 230 that she took :)
The Healey Prototype I built in the early 80's from a written off MG Midget:)

Glad you enjoyed the albums :)

Admit it, Danny, you cheated! You took a full size a/c and shrunk it!
Seriously - looks superb

Thanks chaps, I was actually a close second after the static judging, but the model was tail heavy and a real handfull to fly, so I lost a lot of points during the flying phase. The points for static and flying carry the same weight, so a good model flown well should win. I good model flown badly  wont..... you live and learn :) But I am still really pleased.
