I was also thinking the same as you BB about the ally box section cutting into the ply while the engine is running due to vibration. but didn't get chance to write anything down as the missus had just come back from shopping so had to go and help to bring the shopping in.

A good thought Tony, perhaps some epoxy around the base to spread the load?

Do it now, you may never get another chance

I haven't had a lot of time recently, my sister's not very well, Pretoria is getting a lot of rain which brings on her Bronchitis.
I'm getting close to doing test runs on the engine.

and

I hope to do a video of the first start and run up

I managed to find some time to do a first start yesterday

I initially flooded it (difficult to do with an updraft carburetor), I then turned it by hand until I had a 'knock' from both cylinders.

She was tethered

An aileron fell off, obviously I didn't glue it very well

And the down pipes fell off

But that's why we do these run ups, isn't it?

The engine sounded nice and it responded to the needle tweaks,
It looked a bit dangerous with you stood there right in line with the prop, i know it was tethered but it was still moving around   be careful out there
I still have the scar to prove it

That's a good start. Pun intended   I would strongly suggest you devise some means of properly tethering your model before you proceed with any further engine adjustment as you are very close getting yourself a likely major visit to Hospital. That is a nice engine you have there.

Have a nice Day, unless I don't like you.

Please, Tony - do NOT stand in line with the prop! If it decides to throw a blade, guess where it will go!
Your 'tether' needs to be lower, so the tail cannot rise.
You put the first start vid on twice!
Bits fell off - always best when this happens in testing, not in flight!!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

The scale of the 260 vs the load-bed suggests it should be visible from quite a distance.

How many seconds will it take to traverse the available flying field?

Yes Jon, big, I haven't down an rpm check as yet, this motor is supposed to give 9,000rpm so the 15x6 will give me about 80kph.

Ah 80kph is equivalent to a rather bone-jarring drive on the Beauty Road (the seriously rutted gravel road connecting Tony to the outside world).  Any idea about how it might fly if you constrain the revs?  And what will the local raptor population make of it?

I am imagining that the 260 is going to be flying 2-3 times the altitude you normally fly the Fun Cub, perhaps to the level of the surrounding hills and your flight area grows considerably because it will be well above the tree clutter.  And you install some sort of tracking beacon so that you can locate the big beastie.
