A BE2c for AeroModeller

I've had another productive day:

- Remainder of the fuselage covered, watershrunk and doped
- Top centre-section covered, watershrunk and doped
- UC struts laminated and sanded to shape
- Wheels turned to shape, tyres made and fitted
- Interplane struts laminated
- Cockpit coamings fabricated and fitted.
- Tailplane seat cut

Most of it is illustrated here.....but you'll have to work out which bit is which for yourselves......

Friday night's work included finishing the struts seen in the above phot, the work to get her to flying state started in earnest on Saturday morning.

The lugs on the struts were aligned with the tubes on the wings, the motor and profiler were fitted, the aircraft assembled and the two-hour job of jury-rigging with shearing elastic commenced.

Mid-afternoon, with a flight ready model in the boot, we set off for the Model Chat Fly-in. Conditions were blustery with a 15 kt wind, but there was enough relatively calm air in the lee of the trees on the far side of the site.

Essentially, she flew "off the board' with only slight adjustment for fine trim needed to the rudder and elevators.....and she settled into a gentle climb with only about 80% on the motor..............but then, on the final flight, instead of turning she set heading for the nearest tree and the phots tell the rest of the story.......

Damage was sustained to the tailplane when I failed to catch her after easing her out of the tree with my roach pole. However, it's easily repairable and I'll get on with that today.

I'm pleased to announce that the model is, at last, finished. The plan and article were sent to AeroModeller last night. All that remains to do is take a few photos of the finished model.

By arrangement with AeroModeller, I'll not be posting any more pics until the article and plan are published, which will hopefully be in a couple of weeks.

AeroModeller editor Andrew Boddington photographed the model on Sunday at Impington and let me know that he was delighted with it. It'll now be published in the January issue of AeroModeller which is due out mid December. As soon as it's published, I'll be able to put a few more pics on Model Chat.

January AeroModeller has now been published complete with artist and Scale Modeller Cedric de la Nougerede's painting of a BE2c on the cover. The plan for my BE is in the middle pages, so I'm now free to post the final build pics of the model.








The covering article mentions the last Model Chat fly-in as the first test location for the model, by the way.
