Something the indoor duration flyers do to control initial torque is called 'backing off', basically unwind some turns after reaching your max. Clive King, in his series Inside Indoors in 2015 AM describes it well in the May edition.
As you unwind, the torque reduces more quickly than when winding on, so the idea is you keep extra turns at the desired torque level than you had on when reaching that torque on the way up. (I can't tell jokes either :P .)
So, more duration without more initial zoom, if I understand it correctly.
Maybe also applicable to indoor scale classes judged on duration (anyone had problems with excessive initial torque recently?)

I have found that the initial torque burst can be quite useful for indoor scale, specifically for ROG, as it can give the model extra "shove" to get things moving from a static start...

But presumably knowing how to _control_ the surge would be even better... ?
