Started this evening, just cutting out a few parts. Will post a picture when some glue is being used. Mine will have 2 asp 30 four stroke motors. I have a big soft spot for twins, such a shame you don't see more.
This was Peter Millers example from the magazine. Not sure about my colour scheme yet.

Got the basic fuselage glues together. Reasonably straight I think.
Going to get a mate to make me some better triangular jigs for my slec. Most of the plastic ones are not actually square which makes it a pain when building. Will keep her jigged up whilst I plank the top. Built loads of models but have never used planking before.....should be fun.

Well, no idea what I was doing when it got near the top, but seemed to have happily lost the last 90 mins.
I did read about using the balsa stripper at a slight angle to make the strips into little trapeziums. I alternated these and they seemed to lock each other together, but as I got near the top I just cut them square by hand to suit the taper.
Is there a rule for when you start tapering down the strips or is it just something you gauge as you go along?
Be good to see what it sands like.

Quick sand down, still a few ridges. Better to go at these by hand or with a flat sanding block?
Only a couple of gaps, so going to need some filler. To be honest I've never used any filler before......what are people using?
Quite happy with my first attempt, got the nose to do now.

Quick sand down outside this morning.....came out alright.
Fitted in the snakes, usually leave these till last but the plans showed the holes on all the formers to route the snakes so made life a bit easier. Will plank the bottom, nose and tail plane next.

Undercarriage blocks drilled and epoxied in place.
Bit of extra triangular stock glued in to spread the load, can finish off the underside planking. Plan called for 1/16" but I think this is just too thin and easily damaged for a fuselage, so gone with 1/8". Give me a bit more meat to round off the corners.
Hopefully get the tail feathers sorted tomorrow and then onto the wings.
Hope the weather holds as it is our club open day andBBQ. Dual Ace and B25 on charge, people always seems to like the twin engined models.

I think that's a brilliant job, especially if you've never tried it before. 
Look at the thickness of the planking where the arrows are pointing, it's even all the way around, you don't get much better than that!

Thank you for the comments on the planking.....just followed the methods I had read about. Been building for years and never done planking before. My next project after the Vampire is a Hunter, so the planking practice will come in useful me thinks.
Not much progress, been doing some flying and enjoying my break from teaching.
Got the underside sheeted and sanded. Got the balsa infills planed and sanded down ( used some 1/4 balsa to pack everything out, then removed). Might get the tail plane lined up and glued in tomorrow.
