Good point Q, since I took the picture I've put in a couple of grooves across the cowl to allow the exhaust to get out. The other problem I've since seen is that despite having small fingers I can't choke it so I'll have to make a choke lever as there's only about 7mm between the venturi and the bulkhead either that or exhaust prime it everytime.

I always found an exhaust prime worked best on my Mills (both the 75 and the 1.3). In fact just a drop around an exhaust port would let the engine run for a good many revs, more than enough time to draw up a 'running' mixture.
Always a bit suspicious of choke priming, at least with the Mills, as it did not like being over rich that would then require many flicks to clear the crankcase with the danger of a hydraulic lock that would simply bend the intentionally rather flimsy connecting rod.

very true Q, been years since I ran a mill's, when Vic designed the model he designed it around the Giles .6 twin that has a side intake ( chances of getting one are zero) and remote tank, im just trying to keep things neat..

On my DH4 the Mills was almost totally enclosed so I simply removed the top of the cowling for flight both to improve cooling and get plenty of air around the venturi intake.

I had originally intended to fly it with the cowling in place as the big front 'radiator' had quite an open grill so allowing air in both above and below the ply engine mount with a substantial hole in the mount to feed fresh air to the venturi. Holes in the fuselage bulkhead and formers allowed the air to exit through the open cockpits, which of course ensured that most of the inside of the fuselage got soaked in caster oil! :ohmy:

Finished the major construction, weighs just 6 ounces so far, with luck it should come out less than the prototypes rather portly 16 ounces!

Started to cover the flying surfaces today, using polyester silk ( a plastic so may spark some interest) only 3 thou ( .076mm) thick and extremely strong and light, couple of coats of Bob hope and the jobs a good un!!
