Sig Four Star 60 build was created by Dean M
Hi all,
Thought i would start a bit of a build thread on my four star 60. It will be powered by an OS .65 LA
It will be my first build in a long time and my first low wing model.
Feel free to offer advice, take the p1$$ etc.

First off i have started on the wings went together really easily. although the notches inthe front and rear spar didn't quite line up with the plan!

Still plenty more to do on them.

This is just what we need, some good old fashioned building ! :cheer:

Is this from a kit or are you working just from the plan Dean?

I know i will never get a finish as good as some of the ARTFs but part of the fun for me is the building part.
This is a kit build not overly confident in my abilities to atempt a full plan build yet hopefully one day i will try a plan build maybe try a plan pack kit of some sort.

Cheers Dean

and if something doesn't look right, you can change it!
I often find that the cut wood and the drawing in kits doesn't quite match up. must be variations of quality of the plan paper!?
It doesn't matter as long as both halves of the wing are the same area and span!

I had a 'free' plan, once, forget where from, might have been an American mag, where after I assembled it, it just didn't look right, somehow.
Then I twigged what it was - one wing panel had one more rib bay than t'other! As far as I know, nobody ever wrote in and commented/complained!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

That is exactly what my thoughts were i made sure both wings would be exectly the same size and used the plan as more of a guide.

sometimes the most obvious things are the ones that are easily missed.
Did you cover it or fly it or did you twig on to it before?

Bit of an update
I have joined the wings just need too sheet the centre section then apply a glass cloth bandage thingy. Started on the fuselage just need to buy some decent clamps before i carry on.
I will try to get some pictures up tomorrow of my progress so far.

The first picture is the wings joined together all those lovely colourful pegs are holding down some sheeting on the trailing edge

I have joined the fwd and rear sections of the fuslage sides and stuck the ply doubler on, just need some decent clamps before i can carry on with the fueslage build.

Have made a start on the tailplane this took minutes to do as it all fitted together like a jigsaw hardly any sanding req'd.

Seriously i haven't done much to it to be honest apart from removing the pegs (missus has washing to do!!!!)
I have been working and doing other bits and bobs but now need to get my arse into gear and get it finished.

Dean - re the assymetric wing - I caught on before I covered it - then had to make a decision, make an extra rib and tack it onto the short end, or saw one off the long end - (parallel chord wing) So I made an extra bit and stuck it onto the end with a bit of liteply doubler. The thing flew like an overloaded coal-barge, anyway, so didn't last long!

I am such a slacker Its still not finished but i have made a fair bit of progress. Tony has practically scratch built four Hurricanes in the time i have taken.
The wings are ready to be covered after I have done the wing bandage.
The fuselage looks like a fuselage now only a little more work required before it is ready to be covered.
I have decided not to fit a pilot and just spray the canopy black which i think will look quite good with the colour scheme.
Will put some more pictures up later

Thanks Tony
Here are some pictures, please excuse how messy my workshop is!!!!!!!!!!

This is the fuselage (If you can make it out)

This is the wings fully built just need a final sanding and wing bandage sticking on

And i had to put all the bits together so it is now looking like some kind of aircraft :woohoo:
