The standard model equation, or at least a condensed version. Allegedly it explains just about everything in the universe apart from gravity.

Need help, as I am getting one of my headaches ! Can someone please check these calc's & tell me if they make sense or are total ballcocks.
3s lipo, 2200 mah, 25c rating will deliver 11.1V at 55A continuous. ( 2200 X 25 divided by 1000 = 55.)
Two the same size connected in parallel will give 11.1V at 110A.
If you have a brush-less outrunner motor of 380Kv & a max draw of 90 amps ( 100amp ESC) running on 6s lipo it should rev at 8436 rpm (380 X 22.2 = 8436). Stay with me i'm nearly there.
So, will two 3s lipos of the size above connected in parallel run the motor without harm at half the rpm (4218) ?:huh:

Dont know about the maths
But the esc looks a bit small to me
I think you need a bigger margine
I could be wrong, i usualy am

Your basic maths is correct but a motor, particularly brushless, draws whatever amps it needs to try to achieve the revs dictated by its kV and the applied voltage.
With this in mind a suitable load (prop) on the motor can make it draw 80 A (its maximum rating) on a 3s but it will only approach 4216 rpm due to motor losses and battery voltage sag. Including the voltage drop across the ESC I would expect the actual rpm to be no better than 90% the 'theoretical' rpm.

Further even at it maximum rated amps the power (Watts) a motor develops on 3s will only be half that with the same amp draw on a 6s.

And another thing, if this is for an aeroplane those revs are no good at all. You'd need something like a 12" pitch prop to achieve anything like a flying speed of 70kph. It would be stalled at zero speed, I think!
Of course if it was for a boat it's an entirely different matter!

My Bullet motor develops 10.500 rpm's on a 4S. (750Kv = revs per volt).
I can't recall whether it has a 13 x 8 or a 14 x 6 prop on it.
It has a 150 amp speedo.
Without taking it to bits to read the labels, my Yellow Peril has a 1400 Kv motor, an 80 amp speedo, and a 3S turning a 10 x 6 prop.
Both of these will go vertical (upwards!) for a reasonable distance, but not unlimited.
The Excalibur missile with a 4S will go vertically out of sight in about five seconds. What the motor and speedo are, I have no idea, as they are pre-fitted and inaccessible without destructive dis-assembly.

So - 4000 revs will taxi the model, but not much else! (You will probably find that your car engine ticks over at 2.500 rpm's).
Two x 3S in parallel is still 3S, but twice the capacity, so say its a 1000 lipo = 2000, but only 11.5 volts. Plus you have the added weight of plugs and wires - AND the possibility of a mis-match between the two 3S packs, so one will run down faster than the other, and you end up with a reversed-charge pack, which may well immolate itself!

It is all well and good mathematically working out what is going on, but you REALLY need a Wattmeter, to see what is really happening, in the physical world!

Thanks lads. This all stems from a theoretical debate between Stefan & I, which I think has been successfully answered. I bought a Hobbyking Edge 540 ( the early one 1500 wingspan) for a ridiculous price, £50 to be precise, with a brand new 5000 6s & a good Turnigy charger but no manual. The sole intention being to strip it for parts for my winter project. The motor has nothing written on it & being a discontinued model I can't find a manual. We did find some spec's though, & as far as we can ascertain it's a 380kv with a max draw of 90A. The prop is 17X8. If i'm not mistaken that would give a power output in excess of 2500 watts ! When I get my watt meter back i'll know for sure. This then started the debate on " could you run it on less cells without blowing something up. :whistle: I can tell you it blew everything away in the workshop that wasn't bolted down & has been nicknamed the Beast! :woohoo:
We did discuss ways of taming it & actually flying the thing (boys will be boys) but I guarantee that will end in disaster, which is a shame as It's a nice looking plane. :(

Not a clue about electrics, but my car as most, ticks over at around 700rpm. In fact the manual on my Triumph straight 6s actually advised "expect a lumpy 700 rpm tickover". Never understood the lumpy bit. Mine was like a Switch watch! My Suzuki Swift ticks over at 700 in near silence!

You have some choices here, paint (Tippex) 2 stripes on the motor, hook up an ESC + a 3s battery and connect the motor. WoT and measure the revs. The other option is to mount the shaft in a pillar drill, switch on and measure the DC voltage between 2 wires. If you're running at 1,000rpm the voltage measured will be the kV of the motor. If not 1,000 you'll have to divide by the revs and multiply by 1,000

17x8 sounds very big for a 1.5metre wingspan but OK that prop will draw some serious power, especially at 12,000rpm! And that 5,000mAh isn't going to last long delivering 2,500watts! About 2 minutes if you're very lucky![badass]
