New vs 2nd hand

With my radio gear all sold off and now needing, at some point, to buy some replacement gear, I have been looking at various options.
I did use Futaba and was more than happy with it.
Now do I look at some thing like a second hand FF9 and buy a 2.4gig module?
Or I have been looking at buying new the Frsky Taranis.
What are your thoughts on the more budget brands of radio gear?

What was the point in selling it off just to buy it again?

The Taranis gear sounds like great value for the price. Reading through other forums user reactions so far seem pretty good.
I have recently bought a new Futaba 7C 2.4 TX and realised that for the same price I could have bought the Taranis with a couple of recievers.

Im happy with my Futaba 8fg and would buy second hand.Im an accident prone abuser

Not sure if you saw my thread a few months ago, basically I was going to sell all my stuff, planes radio gear etc to be able to fund private speech therapy for my little boy. But since then we have now got NHS help, this has really helped out financially, so I I can now afford to fly again. Hence needing to buy replacement bits for stuff I sold off.
Maybe I was a bit hasty but I could only go on what was happening at the time.

I would certainly go for new Dean, as Kippy points out, second hand gear has maybe been used harshly . Nice to have you back flying though.

Second hand wise I was looking at Futaba FF9 transmitter, I would buy the 2.4 gig module new and Rx new.
If I went new I am very tempted by the frsky Taranis.

i'm a total Futaba fan & bought my 3rd 2.4 6EX second hand off an experienced ebay user with 100% FB... it works perfectly of course... it's Futaba. I know the Teranis gets great reviews from users who blog, but I have no experience of them.....
I too am a fan of the wind generators even though the horizon here is full of them..and everyone else round here has got one on them about them.... I like electricity but I do not like the mucky power staions in any of their guises.

Just a point Dean. You say in your opening post that you were more than happy with Futaba. In that case, be it new or second hand , I would say go with what you know and like.

If it wasn't for the Taranis chances are I would buy Futaba,
From what I have read there is a lot of praise for Frsky products and the Taranis is extremely good value and can do everything I will ever need.

This is it in case anyone wants to see the spec. Only problem being they are out of stock every where, FF9s are constantly on EBay

For 2.4 I opted for Spektrum, and later got a module for my FF9. Works fine, now for the "but" the aerial connection on the module sticks out so far that I cannot lay the FF9 on its back without s high risk of damage to the fittings. I admit to not seeing one before purchase, the drawback of living in the Highlands. Go the module route and you will need to take a LOT of care not to damage it.

.... For sure Dean the Frsky products are very good. I went with them very early on to much derision and pillorying by nutters who only want to pay premium prices for branded products but I can honestly say I've never had a 2.4G issue and I was certainly the first person in my circle to go that route....
I guess the one problem going with the second hand Futaba is the risk of getting one of the few tx sets that left the factory with the default settings... however, that was so long ago now I would think they've all been recalled and replaced............
