If I could make a suggestion, if you haven't already seen it, is have a look on the RCMF forum about this tx by Geoff Sleath re something he did charging it and ended up writing it off basically.Just so you don't make the same expensive mistake after all the decision making.

Thanks Fly Navy, so it has its own charging circuit from reading the RCMF link and you can only use the supplied charger,

I have had a quick play with it and so far if seems fairly easy to use, I have changed a few settings, nothing crazy just date time etc.
ooh and it comes with an SD card!!!

I fitted an FrSky module in my second-hand FF9 and routed the aerial internally, in fact FrSky supplied a suitable longer cable and confirmed that in their opinion it would not affect transmission. This may not be the case with all modules and all leads! It was then a case of feeding the aerial lead back into the Tx through the side of the module cutout and making a suitable adapter to fit the aerial hole in the case. I put pictures on the Giant Cod site forum (as it was then) and I'm still using that setup without issue a couple of years later. It's passed inspection at a few fly-ins over the last couple of years too!
As for the Taranis - cracking bit of kit isn't it? For £140 the quality is very good, the only things I'd fault are the 800mAHr battery capacity (replaced with a 3S LiFe pack) and the sliders don't have a positive centre, not that I use them for anything needing that.
So far the most complex setup I've managed to program is for dual ailerons, dual flaps, retracts and flap>aileron mixing on my HK Ki61 but I intend transferring my Cularis over to it at some point - full 4 servo wing mixing including crow and flight modes, that will be a stab in the dark all right! It took me an age to figure out how to do it on the FF9.

I have recently purchased a s/h JR DX 9 , and although it works perfectly and has been checked out by flying it, as i was on the JR website, I emailed them asking the cost of a complete check up of the gear. Just had an answer, and have been quoted £65 plus postage. Not an awful amount I agree.
However, a couple of years ago I purchased a s/h Spekky DX 7 and asked the same question of HH as I asked JR. I received a reply by return stating there would be no charge for the service, or postage.
I took advantage of HH 's offer, and they were true to their promise and the set was returned to me with a small adjustment and a full report.
Just makes me wonder how one manufacturer can charge , and one does not, as I must say that no matter what I have returned to HH, I have never had a bill, even though I have requested they include one .
The "no charge" is still in operation as one of my club members has just had a service on his TX and still no charge

Goeff on RCMF is a club mate of mine and yes he blew a component in his new Tx, but it was not written off, he bought another one anyway and set about repairing his other, being an retired electrical engineer he was able to diagnose and fix the problem , i think he uses it for his indoor flying,
if you want to fast charge on a field charger i would recomend taking the battery out of any TX to be safe, and this would be the way to go with the Taranis and keep the dedicated charger for the slow charge in the shed, this is how i do mine aspecialy the spectrum 7 i have for indoor stuff as anything more than half an amp will blow the internal fuse anyway.

It's a King Altair built from an American kit by Classic RC Hobbies, a 1964 design from Vic Hussak(sp)

Is the JR because you need more channels for the Lancaster Garry?

Not at all Stephen, as the Lanc can be flown with the DX 7. The reason I have bought this set, is because I fly Mode 4 and the JR can be programmed to operate on any of the four modes, and once programmed all features can be used, which on the DX 7 I cant
