Following from a comment in the chat room, our leader Garry asked if he could reverse a servo by just swapping over the motor wires, The general comment was try it out, just like to point out here several ways, first, the wire swap, fiddly to do, and you MUST swap, as well as the motor wires, the 2 potentiometer wires over, or POOF
REJECTED,
fiddly soldering on crucial components is not needed with the tackle we have today,
easier way is to use 1xhi-tec, and one by futaba servo, these go the opposite way, and looking at the data on each servo will provide a near enough match,

its a good way, and it works, but we found better, but this was the way of choice at first
use a reversing lead, NOT my favorite way, cheap non branded electronics that can have an effect on your airborne systems, we sent 2 back on the 118"B 25 before we got one that did as it was sposed to do, we found a better way,

and that is the JR matchbox, with this, you can get access to 4 servos, more with a Y lead, you can reverse, servo slow, alter the travel of one servo, these we use on a few aircraft with multi servo instalations, and are very very good,
100% APPROVED

Get a 9 channel radio, at the very least, folk say, why do i need 9 channels? well, its called mixers, and we, on our planes, even with matchboxes, would be lost without them!! we are flying the Dak 144" span, with all 9 channels being used, and 2x JR matchboxes


I hope this helps anyone thinking of having a complicated airframe, that needs many servos, or reversers, its knowledge we have learned over a few years,

We aso use mulit reciever, battery, and switch installs, not to mention power boards that distribute the correct voltage 100% of the time, batteries are ABC life batteries none of these nimh thingys, or Lipos, but i dare say thats more for the larger models

Well now we have another one :P
Am not ready to start doing electrics in the planes yet :( , hence why have started with FF so I can get used to the aerodynamics first and understand them (plus I like building the delicate airframes too! :) ) but am glad we have people on here who can give great advice when I do finally need it- cheers Mr Cantwell :)

A little confused here!
Surely the simplest way it to reverse the servo direction on the TX or are we talking about two servo on the same channel that need to go different ways? (like for flaps)

Garry had 2 rudder servos on the same channel, they went differant ways, i just thought i would bring the subject into the 21st century, and show what we do with the large model, i also use this on my smaller YT fighters

I think Alan was on about flaps, brakes, etc.
The easy way, for me, is to mount the servo upright, and take the output from whichever side of the disk moves in the right direction!
OR - mount the servo on it's side. BUT with one facing in, and one facing out. You will find that both output arms move in the same direction.
It saves messing about with extra plugs and sockets, which are potential failure points.
Use simple mechanics, rather than electronic gimmicks!
For ailerons, of course, mount the servos both facing in or out, and the outputs automatically go in opposite directions

Further to that, in days gone by, when a servo cost a week's wages, and was the size of half a housebrick, we used to reverse the direction by swapping the motor and feed-back pot wires. You had to do both, otherwise as soon as the servo moved off-centre, the pot told the electronics that it was going the wrong way, so the motor kept on going. If there was no mechanical end-stop, the thing would just spin endlessly. If there was, it would just wind to the stop, then jam solid.
You often found that a 'reversed' servo centred in a slightly different location, as well, so if the output drive to the disk was a square, you had to slacken off the locating screws for the pot, and turn it slightly in it's socket, to re-align the servo.

As this thread was started for my benefit, I will add my comments .

Firstly, a big thank you to Alan for taking the trouble to start this after he saw the comments on live. This is exactly what I said a few days ago makes this forum unique. Peeps care.

Unfortunately the way the Lanc tailplane is designed, its impossible to use the mechanical way eric suggests, a way I would have gone ,and prefered. I had exactly the same prob with the elevators, and used a reverser lead for that, but now Alan has brought me up to date with what is available, this I will look into if he would be so kind as to post a link to these units.

I know there was a thread with a bit of info on it about this subject posted last year, and was first of all tempted to join this one to it until I looked through the old one, and I quite agree is was very sketchy, so leave that one where it is and this one carries on on its own merits

Firstly, i dont use electronic gimics, i used tried and tested means of controlling a servo, the matchbox can tailor make an instalation, its a genious bit of kit, and did i give you those 2 intials? JR, made by the masters, you will find these in a lot of LMA aircraft. swapping servo arms from one side of a servo to another upsets the geometry of the servo actuation, it gets there at the same time as the other servo, but at a differant speed through the movnent, ok on a tiddly thing, but try this on a large aerobat!! messing with linkages is SO yesterdays tech, and really, quite quant

ANYWAY, i thought i would post the LMA way of doing things, one can go ones own way, if one requires,
