You did ask, not a cheap option, but then, how much was the aircraft? there are many ways of getting servo output to a control surface, but when you have things like twin rudders, flaps, etc etc, this gadget sorts them out, there is simply no need any more for struggling with an instalation, ah, the days of 2 red, and 2 black servos, and not even a dual rate switch, my, how we have come on :(

Ok, thanks for that link Alan. Now I am in a situation where I need a servo reversing on elevator and rudder and due to the design, not the build, I cant do it manually, so do I need two matchboxes.? I am expecting the answer to be yes, and thinking that way have ordered 2

Model stands me at over £500 so no way is this one going to be done on the cheap. Strange you mention a 9 channel TX, I am shopping round for one at the moment , but not only for the mixers .

look on the matchbox as a posh Y lead, you can control 4 servos at once, but only 1 channel, so yes, you need 2, just wait till you get to the flaps and throttles :evil:

I don't see how using the other side of the servo disk affects the geometry. The disk moves through the same number of degrees at the same speed, just the other way!
Anyway, that's an irrelevance, as Garry is using Swan Vestas - sorry match boxes! :P

you have to have a longer pushrod on one servo, that in itself will give differant travel speed, like i said, ok on a tiddler, but not anything with performance, or big control surfaces

No, you don't, Alan. Come on, you're a mechanic. Look at two identical servos loose on the bench, disks on top and wires to you. .
Tip the left hand one to the left, and the right hand one to the right, the pushrods are still the same length.
Tip them both the same way - no change!

i am a what? i am an engineer, not a car fixer, move the servo down a foot, are they the same lenght then? in a back end, you cannot get the servos opposite each other, for they hit each other, so, they have to be staggered, therefore, the pushrod has to reach further, ok?

Very interesting thread and relevant even to smaller models.I crashed a model because it fell violently out of the top of the loop and lost control.I eventually repaired it and found that the 2 servos controlling the elevator although identical in make and set up moved completely differently in distance so you had far more elevator on one side than the other.Im not knowledgeable enough to set the 2 elevator servos on seperate channels but I think the matchbox you show us may have been of help,have I got the gist of it Alan ?

Sure have but mixers on a 9 channel set would do the job for you as well, with the more basic sets, then its not easy to get the throws right, come to think of it, a 9 channel set would sort Garry out as well, simply by using mixers

Right gents, before an argument flairs up, I maybe havent explained the prob as well as I should have

Consider a rod connecting the 2 rudders running across the tailplane close to the edge. Originally there was one servo operating the two rudders, but Tony did say if he did another one he would put 2 servos in. On reading up on this model the same thing kept coming up. You need rudders to help the turn. And I have 1 servo, what happens if it fails? So the rod was cut and 2 servos installed. Due to the close proximity of the edge the second servo couldnt be turned round hence an electrical reverse needed as a mechanical one was not possible

The Matchbox is a good idea, but a better one is a DX 9 TX/RX This has confirmed my original thoughts, and have checked with HH and all my Rx s Will work with the DX 9 including the orange RX

Now need to go shopping

Have I got this right?
To allow for the possibility of a rudder servo failure you are buying a new tx? ;)

It does raise the questions of how often do servos fail. I have just installed my 65th (I have counted them) and they all still work. :P

After talking with Garry on the phone tonight, i have told him that for the ass end, what he needs is a DX9 i dont think the new ones are compatible with spectrum, not sure though, but when it comes to setting up 4 throttles, and 4 flaps, this is where the matchbox comes into its own, anything using 2 servos can be done with mixers, Garry does NOT have enough mixers with his present set, hence, on the look out for a DX9 a tranny that you would have to pry out of my cold, dead hands, :)
