That one's easy, Quorneng, it's a Vickers Windsor high altitude bomber.

Try this one -

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

It is amazing to think that Frank Halford designer the humble Gipsy engines went on to design the 24 cylinder Dagger and Sabre engines for Napier which were about the most complicated in line engines ever to be put into production.

The Windson was remarkable for retaining geodetic construction but rather than fabric it used a stainless steel reinforced mesh skin 'doped' with PVC!

Oh! Its a Hawker Hector.

This is a bit unusual.

It flew most of its 370 flying hours in the USA!

At first I thought it had a faintly Japanese look about it, but then I realised it's a Fairy Battle without its Merlin engine!

It's a Fairy Battle, fitted with an H 24 engine that was known as the Fairy Prince, or Prince 4. 12 cylinders drove one prop and the other 12, the other one! You could switch 12 off to cruise on one prop, an idea that resurfaced in the Fairy Gannet.

Well done Klipkopwildlife!
Usual that the plane, engine and prop were all Fairey products.

It went to the states because they were interested in an in line engine for the P47! - although it eventually appeared as the P47H with the rather unwieldy Chrysler V16 engine.

If your 511 is the same as mine it says:-

"That one's easy, Quorneng, it's a Vickers Windsor high altitude bomber."

Cheating???? Who me ?????   We even sold some Jindiviks to the Yanks - and the POM's, now here is a question for you Tony - what is the OTHER drone we invented down here?? Clue - it came along later than the Jindiviks and was appreciatively cheaper to manufacture. :P

Nah, can only find the GAF Turana, and that was a drone but not a UAV.

Well I did say DRONE - not UAV Klippy - but it's not that one! :P

Oh - one more clue - it had an official "A" number - series 2.

Ok, There's a difference between Administrator numbering and the plebs! :) It's this one quoted that I want an answer to!

The name Vincent Justus Burnelli springs to mind (he was American) but the former resident of the Ford's Southampton plant was British. ;)
