fog- pfftt we are tough northerners!! none of this wimpy southern stuff!! fog is a mere veil of slightly mucky net curtain to our window of northern tough ness!! ...................................................

See you around 8 am on Monday morning when i get out of that damn fog cloud

I wish I was a glow worm, a glow worm's never glum.

Well it's nearly 1am, and after a long day of domestic chores and a bit of hangar time, I think I'm finally ready to go  14 lipos and 1 DX8 charged, 4 lumps of flying (I hope) foam already packed in the motor, rucksack packed, and alarms set for 5am  Satnav says just over a 2 hour drive, and the route look pretty straightforward (c'mon Google maps, don't let me down), so all that's left is to catch a bit of shut eye before the panic cos I've slept in  2 cups of tea and a bowl of cheapo Asdas shreddies (yuk!!), make flask and sarnies, oh and get dressed, then off we jolly well go :) Nite nite, and see some of you later on :)

Just back from an absolutely amazing day at Ashbourne!!!! A HUMUNGOUS thank you and hug to Chris and Ian for organising a fab day, you even managed to order the weather - blue skies, not much wind and not too chilly. Planes were brill, food was brill, Barney got pampered, company was great ( a big thank you to Simon and Marty) and I came home with a shopping list of " I want that one, and that one, and erm that one... and that one too!" so am giving the teen the evil eye in hopes he move out to Uni tonight so I can accommodate all these new models

My pictures are not very good- some didn't come out very well for some reason but here are a few-oh, and I got lost leaving the air site lol, went straight on and couldn't find my way out of the field haha!!!

It was fantastic weather and a fantastic day (did I already say that? oops saying it again!!) Was a bit foggy driving up and seemed to attract the Sunday drivers in front of me going at 20 mile an hour in 50 mile an hour zones, discovered the Buxton version of the Tour de France at one point AND sat nav sent me to the co-op's car park, but got there in the end and could happily have sat watching them fly all day. Must admit, fingers were twitching... next time will DEFO be flying myself. Some amazing flying going on and Chris- wow mega impressed with your flight and Marty and Simon were twirling and all sorts of maneuvers- that twirly falling out the sky routine of Martys....blinkin brill!!!! Do I sound like I had fun? hehehe when is the next one, a year away is too long!!! Barney is knackered lol, he got fully spoilt by people and became official hand warmer as well as being given sausages and burgers :)

I did take some pics of the planes in the air but they came out looking like spots in the sky :( am hoping Marty will post his pics

I must agree with Sarah it was a fantastic day and superbly organised yet very informal with planes ranging from the large super detailed and I do mean super detailed, not just panel lines and rivets but actual panel overlap joins as well, to more humble 'lecy' foamies.

Flew my Skyray twice, scary in such company but unfortunately the Bachem Natter got damaged in transit so stayed in the car.

Cup of tea, another of soup, along with a cheese and bacon filled North Staffordshire oatcake - superb! :P

Please convey to the DRCF club members my sincere thanks for putting in such time and effort for our benefit.

And the real icing on the cake was to organise with the gods truly superb weather so late in October!

Quote of the day still has to be, having asked what an Oatcake is, the answer-

" it looks like a pancake, it tastes like a pancake but with oat instead of the pan"

hehe

so how did the day go!!! brill my friends brill, many many thanks to all that braved the weather and came along, i hope your journey was worth it!! thanks go to DRCF for allowing us to host the day, thanks to geoff for help on gate, to nettie for the leek and potato soup :af to ian for flightline and Zero tuning, and to all members who helped make the day go smoothly, but i save my biggest thanks for last but not least CHEFFY!!! cheers john all your hard work is appreciated, john is one of those club members we cannot do without, he brought no planes to fly, but staffed the field kitchen all day!!

here,s hoping all you model chat forumites had a good day,
so any one out there fancy another gathering, anyone got a club that might allow a visit from a few of us, we like nothing more than a trip somewhere new for a fly, i can usually rustle up a few Dawn Patrolers it helps keep our fingers in over the winter!! (but as you have seen we dont just do the WW1 stuff)

What a brilliant day it was, and very well organised too. Well done to Chris and all concerned, and thank you. That's the first time I've been on the right side of the barrier, able to rub shoulders with the big boys and their very nice aircraft. and it has inspired me to try even harder to progress beyond my foam comfort zone. I managed to use 7 of the 14 lipos I took with me, flying my MX2, Stryker Q (bonkers spinney thing), and one flight with my P-47. No real dramas apart from a near mid air, which wouldn't have been my fault had it happened, and a less than perfect landing. No damage, and no bin bag needed today, but my Spit never got a flight due to the increasing wind in the afternoon. I'll post any decent pics I have on photobucket asap, but I've just had my Sunday dinner and am struggling to stay awake at the moment.

It was good to finally meet Sarah and Simon too, and share my food with Barney, glad you got home safely (eventually Sarah) ;) It's bloody typical that I drive nearly 200 miles, without incident, and mostly in fog for this event, but some flash git speeding in a Merc nearly takes me out at a set of traffic lights in our town centre, 5 minutes from my house

A cracking day out, and well worth the trip. Now to join a club and get my A & B passed.
Thanks: Sarah-Jane Smith
