What route to take? was created by Dean M
I have been thinking about what route I should take to getting to my ultimate goals The first goal is a plan built Stuka I have a plan for a 78" version but I am also thinking about the ziroli Stuka instead. The second goal is the awesome 134" TN Lancaster. I have to be good enough to both fly and build them so.....

After my first two plan builds I have a Flair Puppeteer to build then I don't know what to do. I am thinking about a simple scale plan build like a Piper Cub in military colour scheme or Moth Minor.
And in between an ARTF P47 Thunderbolt to gain the flying skills along with my deagostini spitfire.
I am just unsure at what point I can say, yes, I have the skills to build and fly a Ziroli stuka plan pack.

why not scale detail the puppeteer to get your eye in for detail.

aim for your B certificate, if you can pass that you will be able to fly the stuka and the lancaster.

dont forget i have the plans for the lancaster if you should need to borrow them.

Thanks Tony
I have been trying to do bits of the B test I have it all wrote down on some paper in my flight box as a kind of routine. I just need to make it neater and stop losing height in rolls.

Think that is a great idea about the pup will see what I can do to make it more scale like.
I have found some really good tutorials on rcscalebuilder.

As far as knowing when you have the ability to fly a Lanc/ Hurricane , believe you me, you will know. The only way I can describe the feeling that you are looking for is when you get to the stage of flying that it appears too easy, and cant make a mistake. This means you are ready for a bigger challange, and that will be the time.

Dean, it seems to me that the governing factor is your building skills rather than the flying ones. Flying skills come with time and practice, the same goes for building skills so I'd have to suggest you need to get several building projects under your belt before you go to the large scale stuff.

To get some experience building bigger models I'd suggest a couple of big old timers - something like my Powerhouse or the Senior Telemaster in size. It will give you experience at dealing with larger structures and the opportunity to learn how to trim out and fly larger models without a disaster.

Quite correct Grumps, I intended to put "and appears you cant make a mistake". Anyone who has never made a mistake, has never done anything

i do think that scale is way over rated, i mean how much detail do you need to put into a toy.
do you need every rivet and stitch to make a good looking model.
once in the air or even on the ground waiting for take off, you wont see most of the detail.

Thanks for all the advice.

I don't think i would go as far as rivets, rib tape etc. Just simular kinds of things as to what you have done to the hurricanes and what you are doing to the big lanc!
