Vickers viscount mkII was created by Ex-Member
I have this idea lurking in my fetid brain for a large viscount.
120" wingspan.
Full scale model.
It's not going to happen till after Garry's lancaster is finished, so i have time to plan it out.
I will be asking for advice and answers to some questions so i can formulate the basic plan and construction ideas.
number 1 in my mind at the moment is mixing depron and balsa/liteply in the construction of the wings and fuselage.
feel free to shoot me down now, but......
if i build a frame for the fuselage using ply formers and longitudinal stringers, would covering the outside of the fuselage with 3mm depron be strong enough.
the inside of the fuselage would have an internal skin of balsa so i can have a fully fitted out passenger cabin.
the same with the wings, ply and balsa frame skinned with depron.
just ideas at the moment as i am playing with things in my mind before i commit to the build in jan.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

I've never used depron, so I can't really comment, but I would have done it the other way around - depron formers, and a balsa skin, so it can be sanded.
I'm probably totally wrong on that one!

I'm sure I read somewhere that the best thing for sanding depron down is another piece of depron. I hope the idea comes out of lurking Tony, and becomes a reality.

Somebody called me 'pretentious' the other day.
I nearly choked on my latte.

I seem to remember seeing depron being sanded and filled using microballoons and normal sandpaper on a combatty type glider.. sure it was online somewhere and not in a mag but buggered if I can find the link at the moment.

I use Spackle and P1000 Wet&Dry paper, works a treat! You just have to be a bit careful that the edge of the paper doesn't dig in!
