well i have had a re think on this project, i have decided that 1/10th scale will be far to big and heavy and costly.
sooooooooooo i will be scaling it back to only 1/12th scale, this still gives a wingspan of 10', but importantly it will still give me nacelles large enough to take a 4s battery.

so with this in mind my first sketch will be binned. ( well i will use it to work out the hidden control fittings)

right, lets have another bash.

I have taken the plans i have and multiplied every measurement taken by 1.34 to get the scale i want.

nose section rough draft.
it is a lot deeper than the lancaster fuselage.

gone back to the nose sketch.
trying to work out how to build it.
i think i will do it in two halves, so it can be built flat on the table and then joined together later.

3mm lite ply keels and formers, 6x6 stringers and then sheeted with 2.4mm balsa ( or 1.6 if it will be strong enough)

all helpful comments and help accepted. :)

Tony. been thinking of a model Shackleton for a long time, having worked on them for a couple of years. Just a couple of thoughts, the one at Newark ( which is one of the ones I have worked on) is a mk3 phase3 with the Viper jet engines in the outboard nacales,
the contra motors will require two ESCs each so if you include EDFs that comes out needing 10 ESCs, expensive!

yup.
expensive, but what the hell, i will have a year to save up for all the bits.
it will take me that long to draw up the plans. so no rush.

drawn up the first four formers now.

i need to cut them from 3mm lite ply and assemble one side of the nose now, so i can extrapolate the shape of formers 1 and 2.
then i might build the nose as it will be removable like the lancaster one is.

According to my info it was an Ex SAAF MR3 and its ontop of a garage in Jo'burg.
Apparently repainted a few times probably with different petrol franchises!
