I'm ex R.N. too, Mike!
O.F. asks if we've ever shot anybody - in my case, only cardboard cut-outs on the range, with a SMLE .303!
BUT - I have been shot AT, with real ammo, when we were chasing Icelandic gun-boats in the Second Cod War that nobody seems to have heard of! I don't know what calibre it was, but the 1/8 steel plate I was mostly standing behind stopped it, All I had to shoot back with was an Aldis lamp - which doesn't have the same effect when you send BANG in morse code!

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Just look at the state of America and their guns, being in the forces is a totally different thing to guns in civilian life

Well thanks folks. That was a slow starter but took off in the end didn't it. Thanks for all comments. It could explain the state of my piston . But only where the air got to it or is that rust? Via the ports.

Maybe in the past 3in1 referred to three types of oil blended into one, including castor, but now the logo has changed to penetration/ lubrication/ protection? Only speculating.
Agree don't use WD40 on engines - sticks better than old castor very quickly. Has wax in it AFAIK, which at least gives way to heat like old castor.

Reading old ads 3 in 1 always claimed those things. I just recalled that my dad swore by Sweet Almond oil for clocks. As bit of fun I had a few drops of Olbas oil left and tried it on my Cox ,020 which was solidly locked.Result? Freed in 5 or 6 mins. No bother . Now if it is good for skin will it harm metal? OK I will rinse it out but an interesting thought.
Uh yup it is good for scars it shifted mine.

Does anyone know what after-run oil actually is and what it's made from?

I'm guessing it's a synthetic, some guys swear by ATF (automatic transmission fluid)

Do it now, you may never get another chance
