Hi One Tenor. Over here in the colonies they bill that tape as the secret weapon of plumbers everywhere! LOL Doesn't work at all for what its billed for. But it is very interesting and I have always wondered if it could have other applications. Maybe some sharper tack in the hobby can come up with something.

ps. I always enjoy seeing these curious things you find. One never knows what will come next and how it may be of use. Keep up the good hunting.

Funny you should say that Reach. I used to be a plumber ( as well as loads of other things I trained and worked as) One day at home we got a leak behind the washing machine /dryer combo. I was busy at the time so rather then go back to the site where I was working for the spanners and blow lamp I got some of that tape ( a rubber type ) out of the car trunk and fixed the leak with it intending to do the job properly later. Some time later when repainting the kitchen it was still sound so I painted it over. It was still there 30 odd years later when the house was demolished. I've also used it for on the road breakdown repairs to get a vehicle back to the garage to effect proper repairs. You will see from this that used correctly it works and I like it. Not used this new stuff so can't say anything about it. The main thing about the one I do know about is to really stretch it as it is being wound onto the leak .Especially the first layer and to cover a good distance either side of the leak. Again especially the first layer. The two following layers still stretched but less sideways distance each time. Tees and elbows require a bit of thought but still need the stretching as it's applied. I once cut a repair off and it was solid rubber right through. It seem that the longer you leave it the stronger the bond. I've never thought about using it in the hobby but give me time :woohoo:  [badass]

Maybe a thin strip of it wound tightly onto a wheel axle as a temporary collet with a washer on first. Really stretched as being wound on. Just maybe done right :silly: ?

Self amalg is often used by radio hams to stop rainwater getting in via the plug to coaxial cable. Once the braid is wet, the cable is scrap. For outside use, cover the amalg with ordinary pvc tape, then zip-tie that on, because the amalg rots in sunlight, and the pvc tape glue dies after a while, too, so the zip-tie stops it unwinding. :P
Trouble is - zip-ties go brittle after a while, too, and snap! (different colours last longer than others)

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Copper wire wound on sorts that out.

Good and easy semi permanent retainer for ensuring the little plug and sockets we use stay together.

Have a nice Day, unless I don't like you.
