Mary and I have been in this country 45yrs and this is a first ever for us, the beginning of a Leopard hunt. The hunt was sadly spoiled by an idiot BMW driver, his lights were obviously on Auto and it was coming on to rain. The lights came on and spooked the Tsessabe quarry (they had babies)
failed Leopard hunt
Prior to this the Leopard had been 'moved on' by a group of 3 Rhino who threatened to tread on it's tail! The Joker (unseen sadly) was the young Black Backed Jackal who had been following the leopard for about 30mins, presumably hoping to get the Giblets!
This was on our last day and we noticed particularly many BMWs had their lights on, they're the ones that will complain they've seen nothing!

Hope you mean the hunt was to see and photo the Leopard ? not to shoot them

No hunting is allowed in the game reserves. Mary and I don't do that kind of stuff, the object is to see and watch wildlife in their natural habitat. We were very lucky to see the Leopard actually hunting!
I believe it was Oscar Wilde who once said of Fox hunting, 'the unspeakable chasing the uneatable'. The same can be said of hunting cats.

That said, I once had to cull about 30 domestic cats. One of my tenants left behind about 40 cats, they were breeding all over the place and going Feral. I managed to rescue a few until one night one of the not so domestic cats started to run around in the car, using me as a springboard! Opened me up quite badly! That was it, I would go up there every night and cull as many as I could in 10 minutes. Mary will tell I was not 'right' until the following day, took me weeks to get over it.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

'Shooting' with cameras is fair enough.

I seem to be collecting cats, as I've mentioned before! I'm sure there's a big sign on my roof that reads 'Cat's Cafe'. [badass]

Cats are fine, as long as they are neutered and cared for. I once saw a grown man cry, 2 Lionesses got into his overnight corral and killed all his calves, just for fun!
I once heard a pride of lions hunting, the MGM lion is a 'voice over' and rubbish, the Alpha male uses almost a sub vocal growl/howl/hiss to instruct his troops, guaranteed to raise the hair on your neck!

MGM's roaring lion - pretty obvious really, if a cat started making that racket, there's be nothing for miles around to hunt! That is usually the mating call - or warning another male off his territory.

We lost another cat a while ago just before her 32 nd birthday. Some of you may recall me mentioning her before. "UMBRA"" We still have our " walk in" who adopted us about ten yrs ago. She was abandoned when next door neighbour moved without her. She went feral for a while then after Marg fed her for a while decided to march in and adopt us. She was definitely Marg's cat. She has a lovely face and a big fluffy coat. She moults in clumps that she tears off. Sometimes we have to cut her underside tangle off her. She hates that. We guess she is about 12 yrs old.
