Mercury Mistral was created by stuartmarsden0@gmail.com
I first acquired my remodelling bug when I was five but didn't build anything on my own until I was 8 and this was a Mercury Mistral. For those who haven't come a Ross this model it's a 24 in span rubber powered Sports Model. Back in 1960 the supplied rubber was poor to say the least and 4 strands of 3/16ths is recommended on the plan have now aquired, this surely would be too much. I have an 8 inch prop, has anyone out there'll and flown this model and with how much rubber? Best regards to all, Stuart Marsden.o

Regrettably, there aren't many free-flighters using this forum any more. They moved on to somewhere else.

Its a very long time since I did a FF but the plan does indeed say 2 yds of 3/16" made up as 4 strands.
I certainly sounds a lot particularly at the maximum of 400 turns! but remember it must be lubricated.

It was originally a Mercury Models kit and they had an excellent reputation so it should be safe enough unless the size of the motor has been changed over the years.

What you could do is mount the elastic motor in a tube, as many do these days - then if it 'lets go' inside the fuz, it is confined within the tube and doesn't shred all the formers and stringers!
