A stick,a string and an unpowered Plane. Anyone recall these?

I built one from meccano, when meccano was made of metal. It almost worked, too, at least - it changed pitch when the elevator was deflected.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

You could 'whip' any control line plane but I think if caught doing it would result in disqualification in a competition.

There were electric toy helicopters mounted on a rigid counter balanced pole that could hover and pick up a 'load'.
I built one of those in Meccano.

I remember doing that. I had built a Guillows kit of something, don't remember what. I tied a string onto a wingtip and whipped it around me. Worked darn well! LOL

Me too - the wing from a crashed KK Playboy cut down to about 16", a 'fuselage' of a bit of 1.4" sheet with a sheet tailplane at one end and freewheeling prop at the other - made a lovely whirring noise!
