It's easy Beard, make them all carry a large flat board behind them, 3ft wide and 1ft high, 90degrees to the road surface, problem solved. Seriously though, KERS should make a difference this year, they had to ban it last year because Maclaren were the only ones who had a workable system.

I don't see how blowing air over anything will give more down thrust that simply blowing the air upwards????.... doesn't follow the rules of physics....but hey, they were meant to be broken. :)

With you there Phil, I don't really understand how you stall the rear wing by blowing air over it, operated by the drivers knee in the cockpit, but hey, they did it last year with such success that they had to ban it this year. Maclaren did it better that anyone else of course!

This isn't realy F1 but it shows some of the myths about airflow.
I've seen a few scraps on RCM&E on this subject.
I won't argue with these guys though.... it's NASA.

Incorrect lift theory

Looking at the back of the MP4-26 isn't that 2 exhaust pipes lurking behind the two cross rails?

It's certainly a very pretty car in my humble opinion, but then I'm biased.:)

For those wondering about some of the technicalities of F1 cars, just about the best website you'll find for explaining the more technical aspects of the sport is scarbsf1.wordpress.com/

He has an article up there at the moment about the unusual L shaped sidepods on the McLaren.

Thanks Peevie, I see these 'front' exhausts are not actually, they just lead through the side pod to exit downwards under the side pods, thus increasing airflow, and therefore downforce towards the rear of the car. I'm guessing these cars are going to sound very peculiar, especially on overrun.

Yes, more like middle exhausts I suppose. It's all about the hot air in F1 these days

Can't wait for the new season to start though, my F1 obsession grows each year! I've followed the car launches and the first test this year like never before and with HD coverage I think the races will look stunning. B)

He's going to be out 6 o 8 weeks at least, he won't recover from that no matter how good the Renault is, and it's going to be good!
