More sanding today, its beginning to take shape

Put some filler on it, the white foam will have to be completely covered with filler as it is very holey
Not in the same class as the blue foam, would not use it again, even though the expert were I bought it said it was far better than the blue

Put it outside in the sun to help it dry

And I picked a dozen oranges of the trees in front of the hanger

Put them through the juicer and got nearly two lt of fresh juice :P

I seem to be going one step forward and two back with this attempt to make a plug, this white foam is really bad. it will not sand at all, having used the whole box of Polly filler im no further forward
So I have sanded it down best I can and now I will give it two layers of glass cloth and resin to try to get a hard surface to start filling and sanding on again :S
I try and it is very trying ;)

We all learn by your mistakes BB, we'll all use that dense blue building foam next time!

Do it now, you may never get another chance

As long as my threads do some good or entertain then all is well Klipy ;)
All I did today was a little more sanding, it has been to cold out there :(
But the cheapo oleos that I ordered from HK Singapore arrived today and very pleased with them indeed

Also found the retract units and electric braked wheels that I had

Got a bit of work to do with my file to get them to fit :( the mounting pins on the retract units are nearly as big as the oleos, so will have to drill out one and file down the other

But I think they will fit together well with a little work

Very nice for the price :cheer:

Another lesson tonight :(
Today I got Nat to take me to the fibre glass shop to get some resin, I usually prefer epoxy resin to polyester resin as I have had better results with it, but as I am going to be using a large amount of it and this is supposed to be a cheapo jet I thought I will have another go with the polly stuff
I bought some of each

The blue is polyester resin and the red topped tins are epoxy
The blue costs 6 euros and the red topped 25 euros so you can see there will be a very big difference in the overall costs with the plug the moulds which will use a awful lot of it, the actual finished model will be done in epoxy
I decided I would brush on a coat of polyester resin on its own with no cloth just to give a base
Mistake !!!!!

Polyester loves the white foam so much it eats it :S as you can see, at first I thought oh FLIPPING HECK or words to that effect ? so I stopped, but then after a while I looked for the positive and thought it is only eating into the foam 5 to 10 mm so that will be ideal for filling with poly filler
And the jobs a goodun
As long as I don't go in there in the morning and the foams all gone ;)

Anything that has an acetone base (read Lacquer thinners) will eat foam until the base has evaporated.

What are those undercarriage legs rated for? They don't look very big for the size of model you are building?

Amyl Acetate, Toluene. Xylene etc Almost any celly/lacquer thinners contain these sort of solvents and will eat most foams. Testing is imperative before use.
