I do like Ben Buckle kits, I still have to finish the Radio Queen and I have several others waiting. High on my 'to do' list is an Elf. I also have the plans for a 'Super Elf'

Well as the weather's turned rough I've made a start, no pictures, its all just little bits of balsa, I've spent hours looking I've the plan, I'm determined not to make the mistakes I made with the Bantam, build it then worry about how to squeeze the radio gear in.
It really was like key hole surgery getting it all in! Think on this one the servos will need to operate on there sides driving push rods for the rudder and elevator, its the the engine cut that's proving tricky, thinking about using a ball valve to cut the fuel designed for miniature live steam?? I know it's easy to arrange a "rich cut" or flood off but a lean cut is more gentle on the engine...any thoughts or bright ideas??

My humble Mills 75 had a air inlet slide on the fuel inlet just below the venturi so it killed the suction.
Not mine (it is a mk2) but the fuel cut off mechanism is the same. You pulled the lever to the stop and two holes lined up to let air in.

Well I thought I'd post a picture of where I am with this, bit like the Bantam but more extreme it's full of subtle curves, its hard to show but the stringers towards the tail sweep out, should look quite pretty once it's covered.
The huge lump in the foreground is the blank for the front of the pylon, I can foretell a load of carving!!!

second shot shows the formers relieved for the control runs, its amazing stiff but it is all built up around a 1/4" square crutch.

Can't believe it I have an Elf 3 ch trainer I converted it to Electric about 24 months ago. One of the first of my models to fly when I got back into the hobby, sadly it wasn't as easy to fly as when it was an IC model, twist in the fuzz so pulled left quite a bit and motor thrust needed to be sort out. So at the time it was beyond my ability to fly as it was a bit wild and un predictable.
It sadly got cannibalised for parts recently, although I have ordered a replacement motor for it. So when it comes I will rebuild it back to its former glory.
If I get a chance I will find some pictures and post them.

Not sure if this is the same model
you where discussing, but Elf is definately the name on the kit I bought many years ago. Although the model does look somewhat different these days due to mods etc that I carried out.

Think Klippy is referring to the Ben Buckle Elf which is a biplane Ian ( seem to remember Phil's got one as Well?)

Quite right Paul, it's a Ben Buckle kit, a biplane for 60 size motors. What attracted me to it is it's "clean" ie, no interplane struts or rigging and an inverted motor. So much prettier than sit up and beg! I also bought the plan for the Super Elf but had to take a guess at what wood I would need since Colin Buckle refuse to give me a shopping list.:(

5k of spuds, six eggs - and don't forget the bog rolls!
Oh, alright, I'm going!

Ian's model looks more like the KK Mini-Super.

if you are calm and collected when all about you are going berserk - you've missed something important!

Made the tank today, 10cc, the feed pipe goes to the bottom of the triangular rear, hopefully the climb out will be quite steep so this should give a nice "clean" cut.
I'll time it on the test stand to see what sort of run time it gives as now I've made it it looks to big...

Well I've spent the last 2 days carving and sanding the cowl and pylon as well as making a pair of streamlined wheels ( 3 laminations of 1/32 ply with 2" O rings for tyres).
The lower cowl is planked rather than carved from solid, think I'm going to finish all the solid sections with epoxy resin rather try to cover them.

Was going to call this one "long tall sally", I give all my models silly names but something like "Polly" seems fitting at the moment.....

There'll be others to be called Polly, Long tall Sally seems to fit perfectly, are you going to dress her in red?[badass]

My 'latest' winter build - I've dug another E-glider out of the accumulated pile, and had a look at the box contents.
It's a 100" built-up artf, with the expensive bits like motor, prop, speedo, servos - missing. If I could read Chinese it might say what size motor is expected to go in, but - - the servo's - I'll see what I've got that fit the holes!
The transmutilation of the instructions is a laugh - it's a good job I've an idea what goes where, but I'm totally baffled by some of the words - for example, what's a 'zoster'? And why does an electric model need a plug-spanner and a carburettor?
or -
Tight the stabilizer (vertical fin) and elevating (rodder) rudder with the hinge, Elevating (rodder) rudder can move for free. Otherwise, you would not control the model and may have accidental during the flying.
-
No, I'm not making it up! :woohoo: [badass]
