Smokeless Smoke Generator .

It is extremely hot & humid here today. So after cutting my daughters hedge, recovering from heat stroke & taking a cold shower, I took to the relative cool of Area 51 to mess about with an idea that's been kicking about in my head for a while.
The principle is quite simple (KISS). Take a container, stick a tube from the bottom into the airflow, fill with talcum powder & let gravity do the rest Okay it's not quite that simple but you get the idea. I knocked up a prototype using an old plastic tooth pick container, a 90 degree bend ( to restrict the flow )from an old chainsaw oil pump & a piece of plastic tube. The container fits nicely into fuz close to the CG. Then fed the tube down & out the front of the battery compartment. Fired it up( with the wing off ) & moved it about to simulate flying whilst increasing throttle, & bugger me if it doesn't work, all be it sporadic. The idea now is to try different tube sizes to get the flow right. Ideally I would like to add a small ball valve connected to servo & control the flow through that. I have no idea where to find one, so if anyone has any ideas feel free.

I could fit that on the Lanc so when the engines start up, they are sequenced on the transmitter, you get the exhaust smoke before it runs!!

The receiver has two antennas, you can see the other one on the side going towards the tail. It is supposed to be full range. The battery compartment is in the bottom, well out the way, but I take your point !

You obviously haven't seen me fly ! I don't think it will get chance to compact as half the time it will be on it's side or inverted, not necessarily by choice !

Now if you took the talc pipe up to both hollow dummy exhausts........

It would need a very small amount of talk if you only want smoke on startup. Perhaps a small oblong box with a lid on the inside of the nacelles connected to the exhaust stubs. Depends on access of course.

Only a small amount would be required for start up. a small pot inside each nacelle feeding each exhaust stack. Remember the battery for each motor is inside the nacelle so I have to take the top off to install the battery. I could 3D print a pot that sat up in the nacelle cover. Fill them up each time I went flying.

However, even better on the Dambusters Lanc they had an exhaust shroud covering the stacks. By putting the outlet tube in the end where there is low pressure should suck the talc out into the air stream. You can see the shroud in the picture.

You could always re-engine with 2 strokes. They smoke all the time!

Wash your mouth out with soap Q. What a horrible thought. I gave up the oil burners years ago. All that oily mess down the fuselage and wings. At least with electric the electrons are easy to remove!
